Addiction is complex and not fully understood. While some behaviors like eating chocolate or drinking coffee are habits and not true addictions, addiction involves a loss of control over drug use due to changes in brain chemistry. Not all drug users become addicted, and addiction is something anyone can experience, not limited to certain groups. True addiction involves compulsive drug seeking despite negative consequences. The terminology around addiction is sometimes misused to describe behaviors that are simply bad habits and not related to changes in brain chemistry.
