Leukemia is a cancer that affects blood cells in the bone marrow. It starts when a single cell mutates and develops abnormally. There are many types of leukemia that affect both children and adults. Treatment depends on the specific type of leukemia diagnosed as well as other factors like age and health. Image segmentation techniques using microscopic images of blood samples can help detect leukemia at early stages to improve survival rates. Survival rates vary by type of leukemia, with acute myeloid leukemia having a 5-year relative survival rate of around 30% for all ages.

Cancer starts when cells in the body start to grow out of control. Cells in nearly any part of the body can become cancer. To learn more about cancer and how it starts and spreads, see What Is Cancer? For information about the differences between childhood cancers and adult cancers, see Cancer in Children.
Leukemias are cancers that start in cells that would normally develop into different types of blood cells. Most often, leukemia starts in early forms of white blood cells, but some leukemias start in other blood cell types.

In a person with leukemia, the bone marrow produces abnormal white blood cells that are called leukemia cells and leukemic blast cells. The abnormal cells can’t produce normal white blood cells.
Blood is made up of different types of cells like red blood cells (RBC’s), which carries oxygen, platelets which helps in blood clotting and white blood cells (WBC’s) that fight infections. These cells basically comes from stem cells, which have the potential to develop into any type of blood cell as they divide and mature. Problems in this process, known as ‘differentiation’, are at the root of all blood cancers. Different types of blood cancer depend on when and how these problems occur.

The human body is made out of blood, flesh, bones, tissues, organs and cells. While all these different elements are equally important, it is the blood that connects each and every one of them and helps them perform most efficiently.
What happens when the blood itself is plagued?
This is when serious diseases like blood cancers find themselves building in the human body. Blood cancer, also referred to as leukaemia is basically a group of different blood related diseases. All of these diseases work towards impeding the efficient functions of the blood cells and works at deteriorating them, until the point it is no more effective. Blood cancer can be primarily classified into two distinct groups-
• Acute Leukaemia, and
• Chronic Leukaemia
Some of the best ways to track these diseases is by sampling blood and urine from a potentially affected person, in order to trace tumour markers.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

4. Leukemia
Introduction
Leukemia starts when the DNA of a single cell in your bone marrow
changes (mutates) and can’t develop and function normally. Leukemia
cells often behave like abnormal white blood cells. Treatments for
leukemia depend on the type of leukemia you have, your age and overall
health, and if the leukemia has spread to other organs or tissues.
There are many types of leukemia. Some are more common
in children, while others are more common in adults.
Treatment depends on the type of leukemia and other
factors.
5. How does leukemia develop?
•Soft spongy tissue made in the inner cavity of your bones :
•Blood cells go through multiple stages before reaching their fully mature forms.
• Mature, normal blood cells include:
Red blood cells: Cells that carry oxygen and other vital materials to all tissues
and organs in your body.
White blood cells: Cells that fight infection.
Platelets: Cells that help your blood clot
Approaches to overcome leukemia:
Image segmentation, i.e., thredsholding and watershed
Microscopic images
An automatic image the segmentation technique can help save lives by
detecting and treating disease at an early stage.
6. Survival rates by type.
How long do leukemia patients live ?
Acute Myeloid
Leukemia
(AML)
AML)This type of
leukemia is most
common in older
adults, but it can be
diagnosed at any age.
Most deaths occur in
people ages 65 to 84.
84.Relative survival
rate for all ages 5 years
after diagnosis is about
29.5% .
