“NIGHT”
ACTIVITY C3
  THEME

 By Kyle Hebl
THEME
• Theme is the insight about human life that is revealed in a
  literary work.
• The autobiography “Night” by Elie Wiesel has many themes.
• I chose the theme: No matter how complex or advanced
humans are, human nature still relates to simple animal
  behavior.
ANIMAL BEHAVIOR OF HUMAN
• Elie witnessed many examples of humans acting as animals.
Elie even starts to receive thoughts of animal behavior about his
father. He feels guilty for thinking of these thoughts. Elie even
went back to his religion to ask for strength to stay away from
this behavior even though he dropped it.
EXAMPLES OF THE THEME
• Elie witnesses Rabbi Eliahou's son abandon him during the long
  evacuation from Buna
    • Elie assumed Rabbi Eliahou’s son saw his father as a
      burden
• Elie witnesses a son beat his father to death for a small piece of
bread that was thrown in the train
    • Also other prisoners killed each other for other small pieces
of bread thrown into the train.
• Elie recieves thoughts about actions he could do to help himself
and leave his father behind because he was ill.
THEME
• No matter how complex or advanced humans
are or think they are, human nature still relates
to simple animal behavior and can take over
  someone’s actions.
