1. ACTION PLAN OVERVIEW
PURPOSE: Each group will clearly outline the problem currently
occurring in Somalia, propose a practical plan/solution to address this
problem, and then analyze short-term and long-term consequences of the
implementation of the stated plan/solution.
Procedures:
1 In your group folder, you have 1 instruction sheet, 1 map, 1 timeline, 4
articles, and a rubric. Each article is about a different aspect of the crisis
in Somalia.
2 First, each person should silently read one of the articles included in the
group folder. Each person will then take turns summarizing the contents
of their article to their entire group (however, everyone should look at
the map and timeline).
3 After the conclusion of these discussions, the group will begin to
complete the instructions below.
4 You will follow the format that I provide below, and you will create one
group paper to turn in to me that describes your plan.
5 You will also present your findings to the class.
6 You need one group member to be the scribe. The rest of the group
members will be presenters. EVERYONE SHOULD BE
PARTICIPATING TO CREATE A FINAL PRODUCT YOU CAN BE
PROUD OF. As always, each person will complete a pie chart
illustrating each person’s contribution to his/her group.
Format for group paper to be turned in: You must write in complete sentences,
but make an OUTLINE before you write to plan what you want to say!
I. Clearly state the problem.
a. Describe the crisis in Somalia. Why did it start? Who’s
fighting? Who is affected by this fighting? Be sure to thoroughly
describe the crisis by using supporting details from the articles
provided. Use specific names and places.
II. State your Solution or Solutions (Describe your plan)
a. Describe (in a step-by-step process) what needs to be done
to “solve” the crisis in Somalia. UN or foreign involvement?
2. Peace talks? New govenrment? Use specific information from the
articles provided.
III. Describe the short-term and long-term consequences of your
plan/solution.
a. How will your plan change the current crisis? Will it be
hard to implement your solution? Will you need the world’s
support? How long will it take for your solution to take effect?
Include any other important consequences of your proposed plan
of action.
