1) Bayesian inference in hidden Markov models aims to compute the posterior distribution p(x1:n|y1:n) and marginal likelihoods p(y1:n) given observed data y1:n. This can be done using filtering recursions to calculate the marginal distributions p(xn|y1:n) and likelihoods p(y1:n).
2) Sequential Monte Carlo (SMC) methods, also known as particle filters, provide a way to approximate the filtering distributions and likelihoods using a set of random samples or "particles". Importance sampling is used to assign importance weights to the particles to represent the target distributions.

The document discusses the proposed reforms to the 14-19 UK curriculum. The reforms aim to shift away from an exam-focused system towards a more vocationally-oriented curriculum that emphasizes developing functional skills. Students will have a mix of academic and vocational studies, and more opportunities for work experience. This is intended to reduce the number of students who are not in employment, education or training after age 16 and better prepare youth for future careers and life. The reforms will have implications for both learners and schools, including more compulsory education until age 18, alternative learning routes, and changes to staffing and training for schools.
This document provides English content standards and grade-level expectations for students in Puerto Rico from kindergarten to 12th grade. It includes an introduction, the standards and expectations outlined for each grade, a glossary, and several appendices with suggestions for teaching strategies, assessment strategies, and other resources. The goal is to guide instruction to help students become lifelong learners and ensure academic excellence in developing English literacy.
This document provides style guidelines for C and C++ coding. It outlines rules for naming conventions, comments, formatting, header files, scoping, classes, other C++ features, exceptions to the rules, and using the Cpplint tool. The goal is to promote consistency across projects and improve readability, size, and performance of code. Exceptions to rules are allowed but should be reasoned. Consistency and common sense are most important.
Lightning Talk #9: How UX and Data Storytelling Can Shape Policy by Mika Aldabaux singapore
How can we take UX and Data Storytelling out of the tech context and use them to change the way government behaves?
Showcasing the truth is the highest goal of data storytelling. Because the design of a chart can affect the interpretation of data in a major way, one must wield visual tools with care and deliberation. Using quantitative facts to evoke an emotional response is best achieved with the combination of UX and data storytelling.
This document summarizes a study of CEO succession events among the largest 100 U.S. corporations between 2005-2015. The study analyzed executives who were passed over for the CEO role ("succession losers") and their subsequent careers. It found that 74% of passed over executives left their companies, with 30% eventually becoming CEOs elsewhere. However, companies led by succession losers saw average stock price declines of 13% over 3 years, compared to gains for companies whose CEO selections remained unchanged. The findings suggest that boards generally identify the most qualified CEO candidates, though differences between internal and external hires complicate comparisons.
