Suzlon acquired German wind turbine manufacturer REPower (later known as Senvion) in 2007 to gain access to the European market and technology. However, high debt from the acquisition and declining wind power demand caused financial difficulties for Suzlon. In 2015, Suzlon sold Senvion for $1 billion to reduce debt, focusing instead on the Indian and US markets. The sale was crucial for Suzlon's restructuring and debt reduction, although Senvion contributed 65% of its revenue. Suzlon is now profitable again with lower debt levels.
