This document discusses a case report on using Acoustic Radiation Force Impulse Imaging (ARFI) to help diagnose an ectopic intrathyroidal thymus. Ectopic intrathyroidal thymus is a rare condition caused by incomplete migration of the thymus during embryogenesis. It can be misdiagnosed as a thyroid nodule. ARFI is a new ultrasound technique that determines tissue elasticity using acoustic pulses, and has been used to differentiate between benign and malignant thyroid nodules. In this case, ARFI helped diagnose an ectopic intrathyroidal thymus in a pediatric patient, avoiding unnecessary biopsy or surgery.
