Anticipation Grows as Former President is set to attend Future African Leader...b7lzhri276
Anticipation over tonight’s Future African Leaders Awards (FALA), has reached an all-time high with the surprise announcement that the former president of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, will be attending tonight’s proceedings alongside the Honourable Solomon Dalong, Minister of Youth and Sport and Pastor Chris Oyakhilome of Christ Embassy.
The document summarizes the key findings of a research project called "The Future of Ireland". It discusses themes that emerged from focus groups and a survey, including Hope, Belonging, Family, Change, Happiness and Destiny. For hope, it found that while only 19% think Ireland is better now than 10 years ago, 42% expect Ireland to be better in 10 years' time. On belonging, it found that 57% would prefer to live in Ireland than anywhere else, and 46% agree the recession taught the value of family and community. Overall, the research found that while the past decade was difficult, the Irish remain hopeful, proud, and optimistic about the future for themselves and their families.
The document discusses traditional and modern aspects of Irish culture, including clothing, gender roles, language, and etiquette. It notes that during the 18th and 19th centuries, traditional Irish clothing was outlawed. It describes how the Irish use humor and witty storytelling to pass down information through generations while avoiding conflict. Finally, it mentions that by 1996 there were 488,000 women working in Ireland, an increase of 213,000 since 1971.
This document discusses belonging and community in Ireland. It summarizes the findings of a survey on how Irish people interact with their neighbors, friends, and communities. The key findings are that over half of Irish people know their neighbors well, nearly half have 4 or more close friends, and over 27,000 people are registered volunteers with Special Olympics Ireland. The document examines topics like how long people have lived near neighbors, how often they communicate with friends, and the types of community involvement in Ireland.
The document provides information about communication styles, greetings, gestures, travel safety, people, food, daily routines, holidays, languages, pace of life, family, economy, sports, education, healthcare, climate, and government in Ireland. Some key points include: the communication style is friendly; greetings are similar to the US with handshakes and smiles; true Irish food includes meats, potatoes, and condiments on fries; Catholicism strongly influences culture; and the economy has struggled with unemployment since 2008.
SHEDNET is a non-profit organization that aims to address loneliness and isolation among aging populations by supporting the growth of Men's Sheds, which are community workshops and spaces. The document outlines SHEDNET's work since its founding, including establishing the first Men's Sheds in the Heads of the Valley regions of Wales, supporting the creation of 3 new Sheds per year, and expanding its model to support other at-risk groups beyond just men. It also describes SHEDNET's response to the COVID-19 pandemic through launching an Online Shed to digitally engage members unable to attend physical Sheds.
This document provides information about communication and cultural norms in Ireland. Some key points include:
- Communication styles differ across cultures, so gestures acceptable in one country may be unacceptable in others. Conversation topics also vary by culture.
- Irish culture places importance on building rapport and relationships. Interactions in the workplace are personal but authority should be treated formally.
- Traditional Irish clothing includes linen driving caps, Aran sweaters made of distinctive clan patterns, and tweed jackets woven from quality local wool.

The study explored social exclusion among older people in rural Ireland and Northern Ireland through interviews with stakeholders and older adults in 10 communities. It identified 5 domains of exclusion - social connections and resources, services, transport/mobility, safety/security, and income/finances. Individual and community factors like health, social support networks, and economic conditions influenced exclusion experiences across these domains. The research developed a framework showing social exclusion as both multidimensional, involving multiple life domains, and multi-layered, with individual/rural diversity affecting exclusion in complex ways. Key recommendations focus on supporting rural communities and agencies, promoting social inclusion initiatives, and developing cross-border collaboration on issues of rural ageing.

“slings and arrows”
