1. What are the main drivers of change in the public sector? How will the public sector
transform in the coming years and what are organisations doing to ensure that they
thrive amidst the rapid change?
In December 2016, ACCA launched its global report called Professional Accountants
– the Future: 50 drivers of change in the public sector. On the 22 August 2017, we are
excited to launch the Singapore report which includes in-depth analysis of the drivers
of change in Singapore’s public sector. The report takes into consideration views from
public sector finance leaders, experts and academics.
Maggie McGhee, ACCA’s Director for Professional Insights will be in Singapore to
present the findings from these reports. Prior to joining ACCA, Maggie worked for
PwC in Advanced Regulatory and Compliance Analytics. The scale and rate of change
has increased dramatically due to the impact of advancing technologies and
globalisation/regionalisation; among other factors such as demographics and social
and environmental initiatives.
Increasing connectivity and inter-dependence brought about by globalisation and
regionalisation have changed the magnitude of the impact and immediacy of any
changes in one part of the world to all regions as the clock ticks through different
time zones. The public sector is not immune.

ACCA identifies the main drivers for change that will affect the public sector landscape and assesses
when these may happen. The reports were generated from data derived from a global survey that
was complemented by ‘deep dive’ roundtables held in 11 countries, including Singapore, from the
US in the west to China in the east. Participants of the survey and roundtables included public sector
leaders and managers, public professional accountants and academics across the globe.
