1. ABTA Newsletter
News from our President Roselyne Stevens:
We had a very busy end of the year in our sport after our National Championships.
First of all we had the Today Show on Channel 9 with Mike Dalton, showcasing our sport very well. Then
Jennie Doniger (National Coaching Director) and Jannette Griffith (National Coach) treated us with a
special ABTA clinic that attracted around 50 athletes. It looked like they were all having fun, whilst learning
and bonding with each other. Thank you also to Glendi for being there helping out.
Rooty Hill Club together with Sutherland, Platinum and Easts/Aqua Twirlers are preparing to march down
Penrith High.
The highlight this month was the "Sydney on Fire" twirling event, where many of our Twirlers representing
many clubs participated among a group of 172 fire twirlers, in the special memorial for Talin, raised money
for Cottage Bear charity and broke the Guiness Book of records with the largest number of fire Twirlers
(169) for the longest time (4mns). In this event, Jane Prior did a terrific job of the Organisation, Bryan
Samphier of the announcing on the night at MirandaPark, Cathy Tsaloukas of the registrations, Andrew
Prior of the marshalling together with Kosta Tsaloukas, and many more twirling community volunteers. My
job was to adjudicate and my highlight was not only to watch Our Twirlers doing a terrific job as well as
having a great time, but also to get a chance to participate in the fire twirling at the end of the event (great
warmer up on a freezing field).
I also had a teleconference last Sunday at midnight with the WBTF in regards to constitution changes and
Dancesport news. thank you to Alycia French our Media person for keeping us alive on facebook on The
baton twirling Australia website.
I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas with your families
and enjoy the break before the new year which promises to be
busier and better. The ABTA does not stop working for you.
Sonia has been actively organizing the International Coaches
Schedule for January and Glendi with her Treasurer's and
Merchandising job, as well as Jane keeping busy with the
Secretrary and this newsletter. Thank you everyone for your
team work!
