2013, Lisa M. Nousek received the New York Metro
Area Rising Star Award from Super Lawyers Magazine.
Selected using a patented process developed by
Super Lawyers Magazine, the list of Rising Stars has a
number of age and length-of-practice restrictions. To
be considered for the Rising Stars list, lawyers must
be no older than 40 years old and cannot have more
than 10 years of practice experience. To be
considered for either the Rising Stars or the general
Super Lawyers list, attorneys must qualify at each of
the selection process’s four steps.

1) First, attorneys are nominated by their peers once
a year. However, nominators are allowed to name a
lawyer within their own law firm only if they also
nominate a lawyer outside of their firm.
2) Next, the Super Lawyers research team examines
each nominee based on 12 distinct points of
professional recognition and achievement, including
any honors, awards, or special licenses.
3) The third step separates the nominees into their
practice areas before comparing them to lawyers who
come from similarly sized law firms.

4.  4) Finally, the lawyers are contacted to verify any
published information and to confirm that there
are no outstanding matters that may cast the
nominee in a negative light.
When the list is published, no more than 5
percent of lawyers in the state can be named
Super Lawyers, and no more than 2.5 percent can
be named Rising Stars. Thanks to its thorough
