NVCA Applauds Introduction of Startup Visas
Illinois-based executive Richard Rinaolo serves as managing partner of Phoenix Venture Capital, LLC. The voice of the startup and venture capital community, the NVCA was thrilled by the introduction of the Let Immigrants Kickstart Employment (LIKE) Act in July 2021. This legislation would establish a startup visa for foreign-born entrepreneurs, something the NVCA has been advocating for for years. With this visa, foreign-born entrepreneurs would be capable of launching high-growth companies in the United States, thus creating new jobs for citizens and residents.
In the US, there is no dedicated visa category for foreign-born entrepreneurs. Rather, they must seek a different visa, such as an O-1 visa for people with extraordinary abilities. This unfortunately makes launching businesses in the US difficult and pushes foreign-born entrepreneurs away from the country instead of enticing them here.
The NVCA supports the creation of two startup visas: an immigrant and nonimmigrant visa. The nonimmigrant visa would give recipients an initial 3 years, during which time they must play an active role in a startup where they own at least 10 percent. They must also have raised at least $250,000 in investments to qualify for an extension.
Meanwhile, the immigrant visa would be for foreign-born entrepreneurs who play a central role in a company that has created at least 10 qualified jobs and has either raised or generated upwards of $1 million.

Born in 1862, Claude Debussy was one the most influential composers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. With early influences such as Far Eastern and Russian music, Debussy is often seen as an impressionist composer, a term that he rejected throughout his life.
Impressionism was first seen as a late 19th-century art movement, with the term coined after “Impression, Sunrise,” a painting by Claude Monet. In music, composers were named impressionists as an analogy to impressionist painters. Similar to the movement in paintings, impressionist music explores mood and atmosphere. While the first use light, contrasting colors, and blurry background and foreground, composers apply harmonics, orchestration, texture, and other musical features, such as ambiguous tonality and parallel motion.
Debussy has been considered impressionist since his 1894 symphonic poem Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun. Besides multiple motifs, he used chromatic scales along with unusual timbres and whole-tone scales. These features set him apart from other music at the time.

The Halo Report is a nationwide survey of Angel Groups' investment activity produced by the Angel Resource Institute, Silicon Valley Bank and CB Insights. The Q1 2013 Halo Report shows angel investment round sizes are trending up to a median of $680K per deal, pre-money valuations remain stable at $2.5 million and most angel investment happens in angel groups’ home states. US angel investment continues to be dispersed nationwide, and in the first quarter entrepreneurs in the Southwest region of the country received a slightly larger share of angel investment than startups in California, for the first time. The sectors getting funding remain concentrated in Internet, healthcare and mobile, with 72% of completed Q1 deals in these categories.

About the Circus Fans of America's Local Chapters
An alumnus of the University of Chicago, Richard Rinaolo graduated summa cum laude. Since 2014, he has guided Phoenix Venture Capital, LLC, as managing partner. Richard Rinaolo is also a member of numerous organizations, including the Circus Fans Association of America (CFA).
The Circus Fans of America has local organizations called "Tents," named after current or past circus producers, owners, or performers. Local festivities are frequently scheduled in conjunction with circus performances at tents. Members will go to the performance as a group and then host a luncheon for the circus employee. Many members also volunteer at circus schools as part of CFA's Circus 4 Youth program.
The Circus Fans Association of America was founded in 1926 to assist touring circuses and circus artists. A subscription to the CFA's newspaper or White Tops, which offers essays, reviews, and photographs of circus events around the United States and overseas, automatically makes a person a member.
Impressionism in Music - Claude Debussy
A seasoned business leader and managing partner of real estate firms, Richard Rinaolo has served as managing partner at Phoenix Venture Capital for over seven years. Outside of his professional pursuits, Richard Rinaolo enjoys listening to classical music, such as Sergei Rachmaninoff and Claude Debussy compositions.
Born in 1862, Claude Debussy was one the most influential composers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. With early influences such as Far Eastern and Russian music, Debussy is often seen as an impressionist composer, a term that he rejected throughout his life.
Impressionism was first seen as a late 19th-century art movement, with the term coined after “Impression, Sunrise,” a painting by Claude Monet. In music, composers were named impressionists as an analogy to impressionist painters. Similar to the movement in paintings, impressionist music explores mood and atmosphere. While the first use light, contrasting colors, and blurry background and foreground, composers apply harmonics, orchestration, texture, and other musical features, such as ambiguous tonality and parallel motion.
Debussy has been considered impressionist since his 1894 symphonic poem Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun. Besides multiple motifs, he used chromatic scales along with unusual timbres and whole-tone scales. These features set him apart from other music at the time.
Popular Hiking Spots in and around Dallas, Texas
Richard Rinaolo earned his master’s degree in the classics (Greek and Latin language, literature, and linguistics) from the University of Chicago. Currently a resident of Dallas, Texas, he spent more than 15 years in the real estate development industry in Illinois, where he earned several awards for design and preservation. In 2009, he joined the venture capital industry, and currently serves as managing partner for Phoenix Venture Capital, LLC. When he is not seeking investment opportunities or mentoring entrepreneurs, Richard Rinaolo enjoys tending to his reef aquarium, playing pool and golf, and hiking.
The area in and around Dallas and Fort Worth has no shortage of nice hiking trails, some paved and others with natural surfaces. One of the most popular trails, the Katy Trail, is a repurposed section of the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad. The name Katy comes from the railway’s name, the MKT. The Katy traverses 3.5 miles of parkland through the city’s urban core, or can be done as a seven-mile round-trip. It consists of a concrete-paved surface for cyclists and walkers with strollers, and a soft-surface path for hikers and runners.
Maintained and operated by Audubon Dallas, the Cedar Ridge Preserve in southwest Dallas is a 600-acre nature preserve that resembles Texas hill country, but set within the urban milieu. The preserve hosts more than nine miles of natural-surface trails rated from easy to medium. Cedar Ridge is closed on Mondays, as well as during and after rainfalls for safety and ecological reasons.
Located northwest of Dallas near Flower Mound, the Northshore Trail is a natural-surface, 23-mile loop that roughly follows part of the north shore of Lake Grapevine. The terrain is rated moderately difficult for hikers, and features plenty of shade and impressive lake vistas. There are three trailheads, two of which require an entrance fee.

With a colorful, craggy appearance of a healthy tropical sea floor, coral reef systems are a sought-after element of contemporary home aquariums. When keeping coral healthy, a major technological challenge is mimicking the equatorial sun within an indoor environment. This is enabled through advanced LED light systems, which have been developed over the past two decades.
While indoor coral were initially collected in the wild and imported to the United States, today many varieties are farm-raised by coral aquaculture operations. This makes it a sustainable endeavor. Transplanted into indoor reef tanks, often on rocks, the coral are integrated within complex ecosystems that include artificial lights, wave-making pumps, and beneficial organisms such as janitor shrimp.
With each coral type unique, a key focus is on maintaining the proper pH and ensuring that invasive microorganisms do not flourish. Live coral must be handled with care, as some can release hazardous palytoxins when brushed, exposed to hot water, or even handled without gloves.
The Birth of the American-Style Circus

The American-style circus began in the United States after the War of 1812. Joshua Purdy Brown was credited with introducing the new format.
The “Second Great Awakening” was an era marked by religious revivalism. During this time, the leaders of Wilmington, Delaware, prohibited public amusements in the city. To circumvent the law, Joshua Purdy Brown moved his show to the outskirts of the city and erected a canvas tent to enclose the event. This was ideal for people who lived on the edges of town.
Circuses spread after the introduction of the Transcontinental Railroad in May 1869. PT Barnum took this idea a step further when he organized a 100-wagon traveling circus, menagerie, museum, and caravan. Thus, the American circus began with creativity and innovation.
