WHAT IS THE KONKAN FRUIT
FESTIVAL?
What is the Konkan Fruit Fest?
The Konkan Fruit Festival is a unique event that is held
in Goa (usually on the Campal Promenade) every year.
It’s organised by the Botanical Society of Goa.
This festival has become very popular with the
community of Goa because it provides an opportunity
to discover, learn about and taste some of the unique
but fast disappearing fruits varieties that are a part of
the food culture of the Konkan
What is the Konkan Fruit Fest?
The objective behind the 3-day Konkan Fruit Festival,
is to preserve agricultural biodiversity and elements
of our food culture that are linked to these fruit
varieties – soursop, mangosteen, karaunda and many
others –before they are lost.
The festival – first held in 2003 – enables about 20,000
visitors from Goa to learn about and even buy these
fruits and allows farmers to get produce across to a
market.
Where is it?
At the Campal
promenade,
in the heart of
Panjim, Goa
Is it popular?

because of the direct consequence on our

return for their produce
• Supporting an environment that allows
adults and children alike to learn about
their own food culture
The audience

during the festival, provides an audience of
considerable size
• This includes people from a wide range of
economic segments – from lower-middle to

women, youth, middle aged
• A lot of our visitors are food lovers or support
environment-related causes
The environment
• Located on one of the most beautiful
streets in the country – the Campal
promenade
• The festival offers a relaxed, environment
which means most people spend longer
periods of time there (at least an hour)
• High visibility location means that there
