Plant roots play an important role in nutrient and water uptake. This study found that roots adapt their growth in response to varying nutrient conditions in the soil. When nutrients were abundant, roots grew quickly to exploit this resource, but slowed their growth under limited nutrient conditions to conserve energy and nutrients.
