3. OUR TASK
 To create a short film/trailer/music video. The group decided on creating a short film
initially, but then we thought that maybe if that didn’t work out we’d make it a trailer.
Finally do we concluded that we’d just make a trailer
 As a group we came up with a shortlist of out favourite fairy tales that we thought we
could adapt and create a trailer/short film.
 Our list included, Snow White, Hansel and Gretel, The Sorcerers Apprentice and
Beauty and the Beast and many more. We realised that Snow White, The Sorcerers
Apprentice and Beauty and the Beast are already movies that have been explored
differently by many other producers, and decided that even though we could maybe make
Hansel and Gretel a modern movie, keeping it original and remaining within the stories
routes would be much better.

4. T H E S O RC E R E R S A P P R E N T I C E
 With this story we thought that maybe we would
modernise it, and make it based on black magic. And
it would probably be rather comical since it would
have a few spells and so on said it funny ways.
 We initially went for this story but later on
decided that it would be too much trouble to require
certain equipment.
 The story as I said, would be
modern, comical, fantasy and perhaps a slight thriller.

5. RAPUNZEL
 With Rapunzel we also wanted it to be
modernised, and rather than Rapunzel having the long
lush hair, she’d have a short bob. It’d be different from
other story lines, and perhaps have a deeper meaning to it.
 We then decided against this story because it had been
made into many films previously including ‘Tangled’ and
‘Shrek the Third’ and ‘Barbie as Rapunzel’.
 With ‘Tangled’ since it was recent, we thought it best
not to do another film/trailer with the original yet modern
storyline.

6. HANSEL & GRETEL
 We decided that we would do Hansel and
Gretel.
 A story that has rarely been promoted.
 Many people didn’t know the actual story
and so with a film/trailer it can give them an
idea of it, which is also why we decided to
keep it completely original and keep it
within the 1900’s kind of time frame.

7. HANSEL & GRETEL:
T H E S T O RY
Hansel and Gretel were brother and sister. Their poor parents were starving, so they went out in
search of food. They took one slice of bread along, which they used to mark a path back to their
home by leaving crumbs along the way. After a while, they came upon a little house made of
gingerbread. Hansel broke off a piece to eat.
Suddenly, the door flew open and an old woman came out and invited them in. She fed them
mountains of pancakes and fruit, and then tucked them into bed to sleep. What Hansel and Gretel
didn't realize was that the old woman was fattening them up so she could use them in her favourite
dish; roasted children! Now they were prisoners, and the old woman kept feeding them, and when
she asked them to stick their fingers out of their cell so she could judge how fat they were
getting, Hansel held out a bone instead.
Finally, the children escaped and pushed the old woman into the oven. They filled their pockets with
jewels and food and used the trail of bread crumbs to find their way back home, where they lived
happily ever after.

8. ROLE ALLOCATION
There are three roles available for this production:
 Director
 Producer
 Editor
My group decided that it would be easier to assign ourselves a role that we thought
we were good at. I remained as an Editor since it has to do with selecting and
preparing written, visual, audible, and film media and then deciding what to keep,
what to remove, and how to organise it all perfectly.

 A Producer creates like a contract that allows the
Director to create the screenplay. They oversee the
process, and make sure things turn out as they should.
They coordinate, supervise and control all the major
aspects of the project. They find how the screenplay
should be financed by making fundraisers and they
also do the hiring and firing.
 The producer is often actively involved
throughout all major phases of the filmmaking
process, from the inauguration and development to

completion and delivery of a film project.

10. F U RT H E R U N D E R S TA N D I N G :
DIRECTOR - MAHENI
 The Directors control the artistic and dramatic
aspects of the film/trailer, and also manage to guide
the technical crew and actors.
 Directors are responsible for deciding camera
angles, lens effects and lighting with the help of the
Steven Spielberg Catherine Hardwicke
cinematographer and set designer.
 They coordinate the actors' moves and may be
involved in how the actor/actress should behave on
the set, writing, financing and editing of a film.
 Some well known Directors are: Steven
Spielberg, Tim Burton, Catherine Hardwick and Chris Chris Weitz Tim Burton
Weitz.

11. F U RT H E R U N D E R S TA N D I N G :
EDITOR - RAISSA
 An Editor is a person who is in charge
of and determines the final content of a
screen play.
 Editors make a selection and

arrangement of individual shots in order to
construct the flowing sequence of images
for a film/trailer/music video.
 They make the final call as to what
should and shouldn’t be seen on the screen.

12. TARGET AUDIENCE
 Movies like ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ (which was directed by Rupert Sanders) are rated at 12A.
 According to the British Board of Film Foundation, 12A category means
that the trailer/movie is for ages 12 and over, however, the ‘A’ stands for
Advisory/Accompanied. This means that someone younger than 12 is allowed to
watch the movie with a parental guardian, and they should hold full responsibility if
the child becomes scared of certain events that happen throughout.
 I think this trailer/movie would be appropriate for this certificate because like ‘Snow White and the
Huntsman’, and ‘Red Riding Hood’ they’re original fairy tales with a slight twist. Also, our adaptation of
‘Hansel and Gretel’ won’t be too gruesome and won’t be something that parents will worry about their kids
watches.
