Research Plan
Due to the experimentally based nature of some of these
sheets, these research areas may be present in alternative
formats, such as testing of joints, or disassembly of music
equipment etc

Here is two more initial designs that I have come
up with for my product, with the first one being a
lifting lid system, that would act as a seat when
closed, with an amp system based inside. I feel
this would result in a muffled sound quality when
sat with the lid closed, however.
This design would be a lofted seat system in which the user
will climb up onto the seat and be able to play guitar from
there. However I feel this could cause safety issue, as the
likelihood of the design tipping over would be high.

Here I asked 9 people to rate my 9 designs, and rank them in order of
which they felt was strongest. 9 being the highest, 1 being the lowest. This
is a valuable form of research which shows to me directly which initial
ideas have more potential, from other people’s perspectives.
Here is my first CAD model of an initial design. I have
used Google Sketchup to create and render this
design to the standard that I feel it would be at if I
were to use this design as my chosen final design. It
features a circular seat design which would allow for
the user to sit at any angle rather than be limited by
having back support.
I have also included drawers into the design, something I
am keen on including in my final design. I do not feel that I
will use this design as my final design but I may carry
aspects of it into my development process of designing.
This design was also created and rendered using
Google SketchUp. I feel that structurally it is my
strongest design, but aesthetically there is room
for improvement.
I feel that it is likely I
will use or take
aspects of this into
my final chosen
design, I am happy
with it and feel that
it would both match
and exceed the
criteria set out in my
design specification.
At the moment I
feel that this
design looks bare,
so I will add
features from
other initial
designs to this
during the
development
process.
Here is my third initial idea that I have converted to a CAD
model using Google SketchUp. It would work around a
hinge system on the seat, which would also act as a lid for
storage space inside the design. I do not think this idea
would be successful, I doubt it will make it into the
development stage.
The 2D Design template is
put into the Boxford Router
software where it can be
generated into a 3D
visualisation of how the
design will be formed and
cut inside the router. This is
seamless CAD to CAM.
To make a quick model
for a pick holder, I
created a simple
template using 2D
Design CAD software. I
created 12 slots in
which picks could be
stored. I made them
approximately wide
enough for picks to fit
inside, hoping for a
tight fit so that they
would not fall out.
Here is a more developed,
finalised design that I will most
likely use as my chosen design. I
have stated initial predictions as
to what the dimensions should
be, but testing of this could
prove otherwise possibly. I have
stated measurements of the
amp mechanism that I have had
to base my design around.
Guitar stand will be developed
in more detail.
I feel that this
design brings
together the best
features of my
initial ideas into a
more structured,
feasible design
that fits the
specification
appropriately.
