A RICH FARMER
LUKE 12:1-31
THE PARADOX OF RICHES
• AN EXAMPLE OF A PARADOX:
• (SOMETHING THAT IS SELF CONTRADICTORY)
• “JUMBO SHRIMP”
• “I AM A COMPULSIVE LIAR”
• “I CAN RESIST ANYTHING BUT TEMPTATION”
OUR SEEMINGLY PARADOXICAL
FARMER’S STORY
• HIS SELF CONTRADICTION:
• WHEN LOOKED AT BY THE WORLD……
• RICH, PROSPEROUS IN EVERY WAY ETC.
• THE ROAD HE WAS TRAVELING WAS TAKING
HIM TO HELL WHEN HE DIED.
REASONS FOR FARMER’S PARADOX
• HE WAS NEAR SIGHTED
• A. HE COULD ONLY SEE THE PRESENT
• B. HE WAS CONSIDERING ONLY HIMSELF
• C. LAYING UP TREASURES ON EARTH
“ 19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth,
where moth and rust doth corrupt , and where thieves
break through and steal : 20 But lay up for yourselves
treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth
corrupt , and where thieves do not break through nor
steal : 21 For where your treasure is , there will your
heart be also” (MATTHEW 6:19-20)
REASONS THE PARADOX EXISTS
• RICHES OR MONEY IS NOT BAD, BUT GOOD.
• THE “LOVE” OF MONEY IS BAD (I TIM. 6:10)
• For the love of money is the root of all evil:
which while some coveted after, they have
erred from the faith, and pierced themselves
through with many sorrows.”
WHY THE LOVE OF MONEY IS BAD
• A. WHERE YOUR TREASURE IS, YOUR HEART
WILL BE ALSO.
• 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in
heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth
corrupt, and where thieves do not break
through nor steal:
• 21 For where your treasure is, there will your
heart be also.
