India is set to choose its next government in an election that is easily the most intense of the last 40 years. Local businesses and multinational corporations are watching keenly, as are sociologists and historians. Dependent on the results are the economic path India treads – whether decidedly capitalist or a middle path with a strong social focus. This primer of the Lok Sabha elections is an attempt by MSLGROUP to help you understand all that’s at stake in this election. It has been conceived as a one-glance ‘ready reckoner’ of sorts and is part of the ‘Voice of India 2014’ election insights initiative that we launched last year.

Candidate Mapping: Finding Your Place Amongst the Candidates
The process of voting for a candidate involves selecting an individual who best matches a personal system of
values and beliefs. Typically, voters must select a candidate whom they believe fits their issue stances best by determining their approximate
similarity to the candidates on the issues, and cognitively positioning themselves amongst the candidates. We show in the context of our candidate
position data that the intrinsic dimensionality of candidate similarity in our data can be sufficiently expressed algorithmically in two dimensions
using Gower similarity and Sammon mapping. A participant study analyzes how voters choose to position themselves on this low dimensional
representation, and how this positioning is related to the position dictated by their actual responses to issues, as well as to their general
political stance.

The students reviewed literature on factors influencing youth voter participation and conducted a survey of UFV students on their voting behaviors and attitudes. Key findings from the survey included a voting rate of 81% among respondents in the 2015 federal election. Variables associated with increased voting included education, ethnicity, field of study, civic duty, altruism, and civic engagement.
Based on these results, the report proposes recommendations in two sections. The first section provides four recommendations for the Chief Electoral Officer that

Union Budget 2017 - A Pitchfork Partners Analysis
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley presented a Union Budget of many firsts today. Apart from integrating the Rail Budget into itself, the presentation was advanced to February 1 to enable better operationalisation. Also, plan and non-plan classifications were eliminated for a holistic view of allocations.
The Budget was presented in the wake of demonetisation and all eyes were on what the government would do next. The finance minister focused on rural development and agriculture, while laying emphasis on tax compliance, affordable housing and social investment as part of a 10-point agenda.

As he set foot in New Delhi to be the guest of honour at the Republic Day parade, Barack Obama became the first sitting US president to visit India twice – an indicator of how important a trade and strategic ally the country has become to the US. On the radio show ‘Mann Ki Baat’, co-hosted with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said: “We are making a lot of history in a very short time.”

Public Affairs Round-up - September 2014 - MSLGROUP
After the bruising general election, India’s new government got down to the business of preparing the Union Budget. Much was expected of the Narendra Modi regime, which projected a pro-business, pro-reform image throughout the campaign.
While reactions to the Budget were mixed, it did include two important policy changes. Investment norms for insurance and defence manufacturing were changed to attract more foreign players. Both sectors have been touchy topics, with battlelines drawn between those for liberalised investment norms and those in favour of a more conservative approach.
It’s clear that a long, hard road lies ahead on the economic front and that these are the first steps of a fledgling government of which much is expected. There will be other, tougher decisions to make – reducing subsidies, a simpler tax regime that protects states’ interests and a land acquisition policy that will spur industrial growth while conserving land-owners’ interests, to name just a few.
With this edition, MSLGROUP’s Public Affairs Round-up takes on a new look and structure too. Now onwards, PAR will be a quarterly. It will have more detailed analyses and content than its earlier avatar, and will incorporate commentary and data that is more relevant to you.

Union Budget 2017 - A Pitchfork Partners Analysis
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley presented a Union Budget of many firsts today. Apart from integrating the Rail Budget into itself, the presentation was advanced to February 1 to enable better operationalisation. Also, plan and non-plan classifications were eliminated for a holistic view of allocations.
The Budget was presented in the wake of demonetisation and all eyes were on what the government would do next. The finance minister focused on rural development and agriculture, while laying emphasis on tax compliance, affordable housing and social investment as part of a 10-point agenda.

As he set foot in New Delhi to be the guest of honour at the Republic Day parade, Barack Obama became the first sitting US president to visit India twice – an indicator of how important a trade and strategic ally the country has become to the US. On the radio show ‘Mann Ki Baat’, co-hosted with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said: “We are making a lot of history in a very short time.”

After the bruising general election, India’s new government got down to the business of preparing the Union Budget. Much was expected of the Narendra Modi regime, which projected a pro-business, pro-reform image throughout the campaign.
While reactions to the Budget were mixed, it did include two important policy changes. Investment norms for insurance and defence manufacturing were changed to attract more foreign players. Both sectors have been touchy topics, with battlelines drawn between those for liberalised investment norms and those in favour of a more conservative approach.
It’s clear that a long, hard road lies ahead on the economic front and that these are the first steps of a fledgling government of which much is expected. There will be other, tougher decisions to make – reducing subsidies, a simpler tax regime that protects states’ interests and a land acquisition policy that will spur industrial growth while conserving land-owners’ interests, to name just a few.
With this edition, MSLGROUP’s Public Affairs Round-up takes on a new look and structure too. Now onwards, PAR will be a quarterly. It will have more detailed analyses and content than its earlier avatar, and will incorporate commentary and data that is more relevant to you.

The document discusses India raising the foreign direct investment (FDI) cap in the insurance and defence sectors from 26% to 49%. This is expected to boost investment in these sectors and increase insurance penetration and domestic defence manufacturing. However, there are also concerns about foreign control and technology transfer. The defence sector in particular may see greater investment but investors will still want management control for technology transfer, which the 49% cap does not provide. Overall the changes aim to modernize these sectors but uncertainties around rules and implementation remain.

El informe CPPI utiliza dos enfoques metodológicos diferentes para calcular la clasificación del índice: uno administrativo o técnico y otro estadístico, basado en análisis factorial (FA). Según los autores, esta dualidad pretende asegurar una clasificación que refleje con precisión el rendimiento real del puerto, a la vez que sea estadísticamente sólida. En esta edición del informe CPPI 2023, se han empleado los mismos enfoques metodológicos y se ha aplicado un método de agregación de clasificaciones para combinar los resultados de ambos enfoques y obtener una clasificación agregada.
