This document provides guidance for emerging biotech companies on planning and conducting preclinical development programs to support a First-in-Human clinical trial. It outlines typical timelines, challenges companies may face, requirements for an Investigational New Drug Application, and considerations for general toxicology programs and studies. Specific examples of preclinical development programs are also provided for a new cancer drug and a biologic for a non-cancer indication. Strategies are suggested to help companies have a successful preclinical program that results in a high-quality regulatory submission.
This document summarizes a thesis project about designing a tool to support workers' transition to a new technology. The project was conducted at Sauer-Danfoss and focused on their transition from a Hydraulic Load Sensing System to an Electronic Load Sensing System. Through interviews and workshops with workers, the author developed an understanding of their current work processes and challenges. This led to a concept for a "Reverted Pyramid Tool" to preserve experience, augment subjective requirements, and bridge communication gaps during the transition. The author concludes that understanding current work and highlighting challenges provides opportunities for envisioning new ways of working cooperatively.

A Fuel Efficiency Horizon for U.S. Automobilesjmdecicco
The document analyzes the potential for improving fuel efficiency in the US automobile fleet through 2035 using evolutionary rather than revolutionary technologies. It finds that a 3x increase in efficiency over 2005 levels, reaching 52 MPG for new vehicles by 2025, can be achieved through widespread adoption of technologies like turbocharged direct injection engines, hybrid systems, and aerodynamic and mass improvements. However, increasing vehicle efficiency is only part of the solution; policies also need to address transportation infrastructure and fuel supply to fully manage emissions. Revolutionary technologies show potential but face higher costs than evolutionary efficiency gains from gasoline and diesel vehicles.
This document outlines Khaled Emam's master's thesis defense presentation. The presentation discusses the development and design of a test rig for electrohydraulic components and systems. Specifically, it focuses on implementing a hardware-in-the-loop simulator for position control of a servo cylinder affected by a loading servo cylinder. The presentation covers the mechanical design, hydraulic design, controller design, data acquisition, results, and conclusions of the thesis work. It includes diagrams of the test rig components and modeling of the system.
Design, test and mathematica modeling of parabolic trough solat collectors (P...Marco Sotte
Parabolic Trough Collectors are widespread in CSP applications. Their adoption is less developed in industrial heat demand applications. In the present thesis the design and test of two prototypes of PTC for the thermal loads in the range 80 - 250 °C is described. A mathematical model has also been developed to predict optical efficiency and thermal losses for any PTC. The model has been validated through comparison with the experimental results on the prototypes. Then it has been included in a custom-built simulation environment to predict yearly perfor- mances of a PTC field coupled with an industrial process heat demand. Energetic results are shown and final considerations are drawn for this application.
This document discusses a hydraulic intensifier, which is a device that uses low pressure liquid to produce high pressure liquid. It has fixed and sliding cylinders or rams, as well as valves. There are two types: single acting intensifiers, which supply high pressure liquid during the downward stroke only, and double acting intensifiers, which provide continuous high pressure liquid supply. Hydraulic intensifiers are used between pumps and hydraulic machines like presses that require fluid at high pressure that pumps cannot provide. They are commonly used for clamping, holding, punching, presses, jacks, and torque wrenches. The document provides formulas to calculate the pressure and discharge rates of the high and low pressure liquids based on their areas and diameters
The document summarizes research being conducted on incorporating pile setup into pile design using Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD). The research aims to identify conditions where pile setup may be used, determine the reliability of pile setup prediction methods, and establish resistance factors. Field data on pile setup is presented from a bridge project in Louisiana. Methods for predicting pile setup are described, including empirical equations and static capacity methods using Cone Penetration Test data. Software tools for pile capacity analysis incorporating pile setup are identified.
Hydraulics today has become a way of life as most applications have some form of system ingrained. This paper is an endevor to present the very basics of hydraulics and overcome its basic fear.
The document discusses how personalization and dynamic content are becoming increasingly important on websites. It notes that 52% of marketers see content personalization as critical and 75% of consumers like it when brands personalize their content. However, personalization can create issues for search engine optimization as dynamic URLs and content are more difficult for search engines to index than static pages. The document provides tips for SEOs to help address these personalization and SEO challenges, such as using static URLs when possible and submitting accurate sitemaps.
Lightning Talk #9: How UX and Data Storytelling Can Shape Policy by Mika Aldabaux singapore
How can we take UX and Data Storytelling out of the tech context and use them to change the way government behaves?
Showcasing the truth is the highest goal of data storytelling. Because the design of a chart can affect the interpretation of data in a major way, one must wield visual tools with care and deliberation. Using quantitative facts to evoke an emotional response is best achieved with the combination of UX and data storytelling.
This document summarizes a study of CEO succession events among the largest 100 U.S. corporations between 2005-2015. The study analyzed executives who were passed over for the CEO role ("succession losers") and their subsequent careers. It found that 74% of passed over executives left their companies, with 30% eventually becoming CEOs elsewhere. However, companies led by succession losers saw average stock price declines of 13% over 3 years, compared to gains for companies whose CEO selections remained unchanged. The findings suggest that boards generally identify the most qualified CEO candidates, though differences between internal and external hires complicate comparisons.
