ENVIRONMENTAL PHILOSOPHY
 Also known as Environmental Ethics
 it is the discipline in philosophy that studies the
moral relationship of human beings with the
environment and its non-human contents.
 Philosophers believe that the person has a special
relationship with nature and has an ability to change
the environment to suit his or her purposes.

THREE MAJOR VIEWS IN
RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN
HUMANITY AND
ENVIRONMENT

ANTHROPOCENTRISM
Focuses on the significant
role of humankind in the
world and considers nature
as the means by which
human are able to meet
their needs and survive.

BIOCENTRISM
Believes that humans are
not the only significant
species on the planet,
and that all organisms
have inherent value and
should be protected.

ECOCENTRISM
Believes that humankind is
a part of greater biological
system or community and
that we have a significant
role as stewards or
guardians of nature.

the well-being of the people

order to address issues regarding the
environment.

2. SOCIAL ETHICS AND CLIMATE
JUSTICE
- arose from the growing
concern with climate change,
and consider it a significant
ethical, social, and political
issue.

3. ENVIRONMENTAL AESTHETIC
- which originally focused on
concepts of beauty in nature, but
has become increasingly
influence by environmental
concerns.
