Day 1: Arrival day in Tanzania

The drive from Arusha to the Mount KilimanjaroNational ParkGate takes2Hoursdrive ride.The
journeypassesthroughthe villageof Machame whichislocatedonthe lowerslopesof the mountain.
We nowleave the parkgate and walkthroughthe rain forestona windingtrail uparidge.Lowerdown,
the trail can be muddyand slippery.Gaitersandtrekkingpolesare a goodideahere.We continue a
short distance until we reachthe Machame Camp.
DAY 3: Machame camp- Shira Camp

3. Afterbreakfast,we leave the gladesof the rainforestandcontinue onan ascendingpath,crossingthe
little valleywalkingalongasteeprockyridge,coveredwithheather,untilthe ridge ends.The route now
turns westontoa rivergorge.Dinnerandovernight atthe Shira campsite.
DAY 4: Shira Camp- Barranco Camp

From the ShiraPlateau,we continue tothe eastupa ridge,passingthe junctiontowardsthe peakof
Kibo.Aswe continue,ourdirectionchangestothe SouthEast towardsthe Lava Tower,calledthe
"Shark'sTooth." Shortlyafterthe tower,we come tothe secondjunctionwhichbringsusupto the
ArrowGlacierat an altitude of 16,000ft. We now continue downto the Barranco Hut at an altitude of
13,000ft. Here we rest,enjoydinner,andovernight.Althoughyouendthe dayatthe same elevationas
whenyoustarted,thisdayis veryimportantforacclimatizationandwill helpyourbodyprepare for
summitday.
DAY 5: Barranco Camp- Karanga Camp

Afterbreakfast,we leave Barrancoandcontinue ona steepridge passingthe BarrancoWall,tothe

DAY 6: Karanga Camp- Barafu Camp

Afterbreakfast,we leave Karangaandhitthe junctionwhichconnectswiththe MwekaTrail.We

of the summitfrommanydifferentangles.Here we make camp,rest,enjoydinner,andprepare forthe
summitday.The two peaksof Mawenzi andKiboare to be seenfromthisposition.
DAY 7: Barafu Camp- Summit- MwekaHut

Veryearlyinthe morning(midnightto2am),we continue ourwayto the summitbetweenthe Rebmann
and Ratzel glaciers.Youheadina northwesterlydirectionandascendthroughheavyscree towards
StellaPointonthe crater rim.Thisis the mostmentallyandphysically challengingportionof the trek. At
StellaPoint(18,600 ft),you will stopfora shortrest and will be rewardedwiththe mostmagnificent
sunrise youare everlikelytosee (weatherpermitting).
From StellaPoint,youmayencountersnow all theywayonyour1-hourascent to the summit.AtUhuru
Peak,youhave reachedthe highestpointonMountKilimanjaroandthe continentof Africa.Faster
hikerswill see the sunrise fromthe summit.
From the summit,we nowmake ourdescentcontinuingstraightdowntothe Mweka Hut camp site,
stoppingatBarafu for lunch.Youwill wantgaitersandtrekkingpolesforthe loose gravel goingdown.
MwekaCamp issituatedinthe upperforestandmistor rain can be expectedinthe late afternoon.Later
inthe evening,we enjoyourlastdinneronthe mountainanda well-earnedsleep.
DAY 8: MwekaCamp- Mweka gate- Arusha

Afterbreakfast,we continue the descentdowntothe MwekaParkGate to receive yoursummit

vehicle will meetyou anddrive back tohotel inArusha.
Day 9: Arusha- Transfer
