Big Data - Hadoop and MapReduce for QA and testing by Aditya Garg
This document discusses how big data tools like Hadoop and MapReduce can help testing teams. It provides an example of using these tools to test a multicast tick-by-tick data adapter. Testing the adapter was challenging due to the large volume and velocity of data. Hadoop and MapReduce were used to compare output files in a distributed manner, generating a report in under two hours instead of manually. Other scenarios where testing teams could use big data tools include beta testing, regression analysis, and gathering customer feedback data.

APNIC has been running a public Vulnerability Reporting Program (VRP) (https://www.apnic.net/community/security/apnic-vulnerability-reporting-program/) for just over a year now, where we have been inviting security researchers worldwide to responsibly report to us any vulnerabilities they find in our networks, servers, and services. This presentation will follow the VRP from its first concept, through creation and the first year of operations. We’ll look at what went well, and what improvements were made along the way. We’ll also review the vulnerabilities reported, and examine them based on when they were reported, their severity, and who reported the issues to us. We’ll then cover some lessons learned from this project, and what APNIC is doing next to improve external vulnerability management.

When updates come out multiple times a week for all of the PCF products, it can take a mountain of resources to patch each one of them manually. This effort can be simplified with implementing Concourse pipelines to detect new upgrades and install them in your environment. But deploying these pipelines is half the battle, how can you move these updates from a test PCF environment to your production PCF environment? This problem can be solved using automated smoke tests to exercise your platform to confidently move these updates through all of your environments. After this session, you will see the benefits of implementing automated pipelines for upgrades and how to make sure your platform is behaving exactly as intended.
Advanced technologies and techniques for debugging HPC applications
Presented at Supercomputing 18. Debugging and analyzing today's HPC applications requires a tool with capabilities and features to support the demands of today’s complex HPC applications. Debugging tools must be able to handle the extensive use of C++ templates and the STL, use of many shared libraries, optimized code, code leveraging GPU accelerators and applications constructed with multiple languages.
This presentation walks through the different advanced technologies provided by the debugger, TotalView for HPC, and shows how they can be used to easily understand complex code and quickly solve difficult problems. Showcasing TotalView’s new user interface, you will learn how to leverage the amazing technology of reverse debugging to replay how your program ran. You will also see how TotalView provides a unified view across applications that utilize Python and C++, debug CUDA applications, find memory leaks in your HPC codes and other powerful techniques for improving the quality of your code.
AusCERT2022: Vulnerability Reporting Program on a Shoestring Budget - APNIC
The document summarizes the creation and first year of APNIC's Vulnerability Reporting Program (VRP), which was launched with limited resources on a shoestring budget. It describes how APNIC established contact points, scope, and rules for its VRP without paying bounties. In its first year, the VRP received over 80 vulnerability reports, including some high severity issues. Based on lessons learned, APNIC later partnered with HackerOne to outsource coordination of the VRP and attract more researchers. Introduction: This session will cover learning about fundamentals of Apache Kafka and SMM (Streams Messaging Manager)
Format: This session will start with understanding the basic concepts/entities of Apache Kafka like Brokers, Topics, Producers and Consumers/Consumer Groups. It will then delve deeper in to advanced topics like idempotent producer, transactional API in Kafka for exactly once processing, authentication, authorization, replication, log compaction, compression, performance, etc. It will later on be followed by a demo of SMM, an open source Cloudera initiative to help users of Kafka get a better insight in to their Kafka clusters from an operational perspective using an elegant and slick GUI rather than writing complex manual scripts. It will also cover a demo of Alerting/Notification framework that can be used to trigger alerts and notify based on certain conditions one wants to monitor for.
Objective: The objective of this session is to learn about Apache Kafka and illustrate how SMM can help to answer questions that arise in production deployments. Example questions are “Do I have any offline topic partitions”, “Which consumer group is falling behind most”, “What producers are generating the most data right now”, “How does data in my application topic look like” and so on. It will also aim to get familiar with SMM GUI exploring different views around different entities like Brokers, Topics, Producers and Consumer Groups so that user can quickly look for valuable information needed to monitor Kafka clusters or their application. It will also aim to learn how to use the Alerting and Notification framework that comes with SMM to automate monitoring of Kafka clusters and the applications built around it.
