Definition Of Discount
Discount means reducing the price or value of an object or item.
Definition Of Discount
 Discount means reducing the price or value of an object or
item.
 Regular price minus Sale price gives the amount of discount.
 If the discount is given in percent, then the amount of discount
can be found by using the formula,
 Amount of Discount = Regular Price × Rate of Discount.
Example
Amar bought the Mobile, which costs Rs.27000. But he was given a discount of Rs.
3000.
Cost at which Amar bought the Mobile
= Original cost of the Mobile - Discount offered on the Mobile
= 27000 - 3000 = 24000
So, Amar paid Rs. 24000 for the Mobile after discount.
Example
The regular price of a jacket was 500 Rs. A discount of 10% was marked on it. Find
the price of the jacket after the discount.
Step 1: Discount on the jacket = 10% of Rs. 500
Step 2: 10% =
10
100
= 0.1 [Write the percent as a decimal.]
Step 3: 10% of 500 = 0.1 × 500 = 50 [Multiply.]
Step 4: Price of the jacket after discount = regular price of the jacket - discount = 500
- 50= Rs. 450
Step 5: So, price of the jacket after discount is Rs. 450.
