This document provides background information and an analysis of a case study of a 12th grade English Language Learner (ELL) student named Juan Carlos. It includes interviews with Juan Carlos, his teacher Mr. Calderon, and the school principal. Juan Carlos immigrated from Mexico in the 1st grade and was initially placed in a submersion program with no translation support. He struggled early on but improved to an intermediate English proficiency level (Level 3) by 3rd grade. The document analyzes Juan Carlos' academic progress and recommendations to support ELL students based on the interviews.
