Three Hasidic Jews and over 120 cyclists attended a panel discussion at a Brooklyn bar to debate a dispute over a bike lane. The bike lane runs through an ultra-Orthodox Hasidic Jewish neighborhood in South Williamsburg whose residents had complained about scantily clad female riders, leading the city to remove part of the lane. Now two cyclists face criminal charges for repainting the removed section, and the groups have been feuding. At the panel, Isaac Abraham, a 59-year-old spokesman for the Satmar Hasidic sect, acknowledged that the initial hipster influx was tolerated but that masses of newcomers are now objected to.
