5 Must-Photographed Birds Species in Peru
In Peru, there are over 1830 bird species, a veritable paradise for bird lovers who like to enjoy
Bird Photography Trips around the globe.
From these vast varieties of birds, we at Birds of Peru Tours have chosen the five rarest bird
species to make your journey awe-inspiring while witnessing them.
Marvellous spatuletail, Loddigesia mirabilis
The Marvellous Spatuletail is the most endemic and beautiful bird in the entire world. It is
admired for its gorgeous plumage and majestic dancing tails with two independent feathers that
move freely. The feathers are up to 15 cm long.
It varies in weight from 40 to 70 grams. The hummingbird is an indigenous species that can only
be found in the Amazonian jungle in northeastern Peru, 1,212 kilometers from Lima.
Penelope Albipennis, the White-Winged Guan
Another rare bird of Peru is the white-winged guan. It was rediscovered in 1977 after being
thought extinct for 100 years. It only inhabits scattered groups in the dry forests of northern Peru.
The rapid degradation of their habitat is the greatest threat to their survival. Successful outcomes
have been attained through captive breeding and replenishment efforts. The Chaparral private
reserve in Lambayeque, located 790 kilometers north of Lima, is one of these locations.
Plantcutter of Peru—Phytotoma Raimondii
Birds Watching Tours Bolivia: The Peruvian plant-cutter is yet another endangered species that
is only found in Peru. It can be found between Piura and La Libertad in the dry forests of
northern Peru. The degradation and disappearance of its environment pose the biggest threat. It
measures 18.5 cm in length. It has a very powerful peak that is rather short, with edges that are
somewhat serrated and curved.
It is remarkable due to its strong crest, which bristles when startled. The more colourful male has
different white markings: charcoal grey in its dorsal regions and darker on its tail and wings.
Their bellies are scarlet, and their bottom parts are ashy white. On the beak, there is a crimson
mark as well.
Long-whiskered owlet—Xenoglaux loweryi
Another stunning endemic bird from Peru is this one. Its natural habitat is the moist montane
rainforest found in the northeastern Peruvian areas of the Amazon and San Martin. Its tail is
small, its feathers are mostly dark brown, and it can grow to be up to 13 cm long. Its chest is pale
with dark patches. It gets its name from the numerous, sensitive, long feathers that are present on
its face and resemble whiskers. It’s one of the tiniest owls in existence.
Andean condor (Vultur gryphus)
The tallest bird is thought to be in danger. Its main colour is black, while portions of its wings
and neck are covered in white feathers. The head is crimson and has no feathers. The Colca
Valley in Arequipa, which is 1.131 km southeast of Lima, is one of its native high-altitude
habitats, though it has occasionally been spotted there. Andean culture and folklore are linked to
the condor.
You must visit Peru to observe these five birds on your subsequent trip. Take out your camera
and prepare to be amazed by its beauty. We really hope you find this information helpful.
Conclusion
Birds of Peru Tours urges you to explore fascinating birds that could be seen and that set up an
area of protection for several animal species. Do not hesitate to call us if you need more
information about the International Birding Tours.
