Final presentation overview on parkinson's photovoice project

A study found that after only 10 weeks of volunteering, adolescents had lower inflammation levels and cholesterol scores as well as lower BMIs compared to those who did not volunteer. The research suggests that volunteering benefits both physical and mental well-being, as it was found to increase empathy and improve mood. Older volunteers also benefit, with other research finding they are less depressed and have a better quality of life as a result of volunteering.

Parallel Session 4.4.2 My Pathway, My Choice

Quality Of Life, Spirituality and Social Support among Caregivers of Cancer P...
Caregiving can be both rewarding and challenging. Literature suggests that family caregivers may
experience increased symptoms of psychological and social malfunctioning. However, it may also provide one
with opportunities to renew relationships or feel connected to a higher power. The current study is an attempt to
investigate how caregiving influences a person’s general wellbeing. The sample consisted of 25 caregivers of
cancer patients and 25 appropriately matched control.World Health Organization- QOL (1991),
Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support by Zimet, et al (1988) and Spiritual Perspective Scale by
Reed (1986) were used to asses QOL, Social support and spirituality respectively. The obtained data was
analyzed in SPSS using independent sample t-test. Results indicated a significant difference between Caregivers
and the control group on QOL, spirituality and social support.
Gdm
A study was conducted of 607 women at a tertiary care hospital in Haryana, India to determine the prevalence of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and associated risk factors. The results found that GDM was diagnosed in some of the women. Several risk factors were found to be associated with GDM based on initial analysis, including age, education level, socio-economic status, weight, and family history of conditions. However, after further analysis, only upper middle class status and presence of acanthosis nigricans remained significantly associated with increased risk of developing GDM.

This study examined whether a brief mindfulness meditation could increase self-regulation of health behaviors by reducing food intake after ego depletion. Sixty-three participants completed questionnaires, an ego depletion or control task, then mindfulness meditation or a control audio. Blood glucose and food choice were measured. Those in the depletion only condition ate more cookies than the control or depletion+mindfulness groups. Trait mindfulness correlated with less eating based on mood. While blood glucose did not mediate the relationship, further investigation is warranted. The findings suggest mindfulness may help self-regulate eating after ego depletion.
Social support among the Caregivers of Persons Living with Cancer
:The social support emphasize as the support given to any person in a troublesome or burdensome situation by family members, relatives as well as resources exerted by social connections, is effective in promoting physical health and feeling oneself good. The present study consisted of 300 caregivers of persons with cancer was selected based on simple random sampling, and with inclusion and exclusion criteria. Those patients satisfying the inclusion and exclusion criteria and attending both outpatient and inpatient services of cancer specialty hospital in KIDWAI Bangalore, Karnataka were selected randomly. The data was collected from the patients & caregivers of persons living with cancer who fulfill the inclusion/exclusion criteria were taken up for the study after their consent. Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (Zimet et al, 1998) was administered to understand Perceived Social Support. The interviews and the instruments were administered by research experts.The Results suggest that there were poor social support found in caregivers of married, female, belong to rural domicile, illiterate, and,caregivers who were not heard about the treatment of cancer.

1) Women whose pregnancies were complicated by fetal anomalies that require surgery had significantly higher levels of state anxiety than women without such complications. Older maternal age was also correlated with higher state anxiety.
2) Those with histories of mental health issues had higher trait anxiety scores. Most women reported that knowing about the nurse care coordinator at the fetal care center decreased their anxiety.
3) Participants expressed interest in speaking with families who had similar experiences as a form of emotional support. The study provides insight into risk factors for higher maternal anxiety and potential support services.

Research question: “Does self-disclosure of the therapist improve eating disorder treatment.”
Hypothesis: Self-disclosure of the therapist improves eating disorder treatment.
Information On Research
The key variables for this research are self-disclosure of the therapist and eating disorder treatment. This research will focus on online research whereby participants will be recruited from an eating disorder charity database. The participants will be asked about the status of their condition and how they feel about having the disorder. The neutral condition will be that the therapists will disclose their sexuality and their feelings towards the patients’ conditions and personality (Marziliano, Pessin, Rosenfeld, & Breitbart, 2018).
Process of Study
The study will continue for two months with the therapists making contact with the participants once every week. These conditions will form the independent variables. The dependent variable would be participants continued to receive positive self-disclosures from the therapist leading to a greater level of patient self-disclosure, which lowered their shame, and encouraged the participants to continue with the treatment process. The participants will also be asked if they have been involved in any treatment before, and how they could describe their therapeutic alliance (Fuertes, Moore, & Ganley, 2018).
A longitudinal study and the rate of drop-out will be used to gather more information about the participants. The collected data will then be analyzed in relation to the independent variables by the end of the study. One of the ethical issues, which will be looked into while conducting the study, is informed consent. Participants will be informed about the purpose of the research and will have the right to participate or not participate in it. Secondly, the research will ensure the privacy and confidentiality of every participant.

Secrecy and concealment are typical behaviors in individuals with eating problems. In the article titled “ Self-Disclosure in eating disorders,” researchers examined women with greater related eating issues and determined whether or not, these women would be willing to disclose information. In this study, different types of disclosure were calculated considering the body appearance of the individual and to restrained eating. This article would benefit my research because it provides great information that will confirm my theory and test my hypothesis.

This study explored the effects of a low-intensity exercise program on fatigue and depression in postpartum women in Taiwan. 31 women participated in 6 exercise sessions over 3 weeks that focused on yoga, Pilates, and aerobic exercises. Their levels of fatigue and depression were measured before and after and compared to a control group of 30 women who did not participate. The exercise program significantly reduced physical fatigue, psychological fatigue, and fatigue symptoms, but did not significantly impact depression levels. The study demonstrated that low-intensity exercise can help reduce feelings of fatigue in postpartum women.

Allogeneic CAR-Ts have the potential to broaden access to earlier lines of treatment due to their inherent cost benefits, however they will need to demonstrate comparable or improved efficacy to established modalities.
In addition to infrastructure and capacity constraints, CAR-Ts face a very different risk-benefit dynamic in autoimmune compared to oncology, highlighting the need for tolerable therapies with low adverse event risk. CAR-NK and Treg-based therapies are also being developed in certain autoimmune disorders and may demonstrate favorable safety profiles. Several novel non-cell therapies such as bispecific antibodies, nanobodies, and RNAi drugs, may also offer future alternative competitive solutions with variable value propositions.
Widespread adoption of cell therapies will not only require strong efficacy and safety data, but also adapted pricing and access strategies. At oncology-based price points, CAR-Ts are unlikely to achieve broad market access in autoimmune disorders, with eligible patient populations that are potentially orders of magnitude greater than the number of currently addressable cancer patients. Developers have made strides towards reducing cell therapy COGS while improving manufacturing efficiency, but payors will inevitably restrict access until more sustainable pricing is achieved.
Despite these headwinds, industry leaders and investors remain confident that cell therapies are poised to address significant unmet need in patients suffering from autoimmune disorders. However, the extent of this impact on the treatment landscape remains to be seen, as the industry rapidly approaches an inflection point.

Breast cancer: Post menopausal endocrine therapy
Breast cancer in postmenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive (HR+) status is a common and complex condition that necessitates a multifaceted approach to management. HR+ breast cancer means that the cancer cells grow in response to hormones such as estrogen and progesterone. This subtype is prevalent among postmenopausal women and typically exhibits a more indolent course compared to other forms of breast cancer, which allows for a variety of treatment options.
Diagnosis and Staging
The diagnosis of HR+ breast cancer begins with clinical evaluation, imaging, and biopsy. Imaging modalities such as mammography, ultrasound, and MRI help in assessing the extent of the disease. Histopathological examination and immunohistochemical staining of the biopsy sample confirm the diagnosis and hormone receptor status by identifying the presence of estrogen receptors (ER) and progesterone receptors (PR) on the tumor cells.
Staging involves determining the size of the tumor (T), the involvement of regional lymph nodes (N), and the presence of distant metastasis (M). The American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) staging system is commonly used. Accurate staging is critical as it guides treatment decisions.
Treatment Options
Endocrine Therapy
Endocrine therapy is the cornerstone of treatment for HR+ breast cancer in postmenopausal women. The primary goal is to reduce the levels of estrogen or block its effects on cancer cells. Commonly used agents include:
Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulators (SERMs): Tamoxifen is a SERM that binds to estrogen receptors, blocking estrogen from stimulating breast cancer cells. It is effective but may have side effects such as increased risk of endometrial cancer and thromboembolic events.
Aromatase Inhibitors (AIs): These drugs, including anastrozole, letrozole, and exemestane, lower estrogen levels by inhibiting the aromatase enzyme, which converts androgens to estrogen in peripheral tissues. AIs are generally preferred in postmenopausal women due to their efficacy and safety profile compared to tamoxifen.
Selective Estrogen Receptor Downregulators (SERDs): Fulvestrant is a SERD that degrades estrogen receptors and is used in cases where resistance to other endocrine therapies develops.
Combination Therapies
Combining endocrine therapy with other treatments enhances efficacy. Examples include:
Endocrine Therapy with CDK4/6 Inhibitors: Palbociclib, ribociclib, and abemaciclib are CDK4/6 inhibitors that, when combined with endocrine therapy, significantly improve progression-free survival in advanced HR+ breast cancer.
Endocrine Therapy with mTOR Inhibitors: Everolimus, an mTOR inhibitor, can be added to endocrine therapy for patients who have developed resistance to aromatase inhibitors.
Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy is generally reserved for patients with high-risk features, such as large tumor size, high-grade histology, or extensive lymph node involvement. Regimens often include anthracyclines and taxanes.
