A Page message is sent by the VLR to the RCF to initiate the PAGING
procedure in the event of a TC call. This procedure follows the
authentication and ciphering phases.
A number of paging attempts are possible on all the cells or, in cases of
congestion, over a list of cells. These cases are conditioned by system
parameters.
The Search for mobile subscriber message is sent by the VLR to the
RCP when the identity of the LAC is unknown to the VLR. This message
initiates a paging procedure if option F-PA-003 is active.

(1) Cell Identification discriminator field indicates
whether the CGI parameter is used partially or in full to
identify the cells in the list. In all paging cases (normal,
search or repetition of paging), if the list of cells exceeds
the normal length of a paging message, the All Cells
format is used.
CGI (discriminator= 00000000)
LAC+CI (discriminator= 00000001).
LAI (discriminator= 00000100).
LAC (discriminator= 00000101).
All cells of a BSC (discriminator= 00000110).
(2) Channel needed: If the BSC type supports this
parameter, the value may be SDDCH.
(3) Reserved for satellite network.
(4) Cell identifier is received in two formats:
CGI = 00000000.
LAC+CI = 00000001.
(5) Classmark2: Algorithm A5, mobile priorities, etc.
(6) SMS-MT processing (option F-SMS-007) to SDCCH
allocation.

Paging data
Used to extend paging to all the cells of the BSCs associated with the location area, when the
first paging attempt fails.
Sys. Par.: PARNAME = RB_F_PA_001, NUM = BOOL, RTDMS Database: RELNAME=
RYR_SYSB, ATR = D_FPA001
Relevant process:
When the RCF initiates a paging procedure to a located mobile, the BSSMAP_PAGING
message is sent first to each of the BSCs having at least one cell in the mobile's location area.
If the RCF receives no response at the end of time TPAG and F-PA-002 is set to the FALSE
state, then the paging attempt is repeated. F-PA-001 operates in this precise case to define to
which cells the repeated BSSMAP_PAGING message is addressed.
The attempt is repeated NB_PAG_ATTEMPT times.
F-PA-001 is meaningless if F-PA-008 (satellite network) is set to the TRUE state.
Field values:
VRAI (TRUE): The BSSMAP_PAGING message is returned to the same BSCs as in the first
attempt. The Cell Identifier list parameter is set:
• to all cells, or
• to a restricted number of LACs and cells if F-PA-004 (BSS overload management) is set to
FAUX (FALSE): The BSSMAP_PAGING message is sent to the same BSCs as on the first
attempt and with the Cell Identifier List parameter, except in the event of congestion, in which
case the process is as defined by F-PA-004.
6.12
F-PA-001 :
the TRUE state and the BSC has declared a congestion condition.

Paging data
6.13
NB_PAG_ATTEMPT : Number of Paging attempts.
Sys. Par.: PARNAME = NB_PAG_ATTEMPT, NUM = NUM, RTDMS
Database: RELNAME = RYR_SYSG, ATR = D_PAGRPT
Relevant process:
NB_PAG_ATTEMPT is the number of unsuccessful paging attempts
before declaring the mobile not reachable, or initiating an HPA paging.
NB_PAG_ATTEMPT is meaningless if F-PA-002 (satellite networks) is
set to FALSE.
Tip: (HPA = High Penetration Alerting)
The number of Paging attempts is the number of Pagings minus one
and, in the case of an HPA paging defined by F-PA-007 (Satellite
networks), the HPA paging attempt is not counted.
Example = D'1/ H'01
Paging number max = NB_PAG_ATTEMPT + 1

TPAG : Timer awaiting the response to Paging.
Sys. Par.: PARNAME = TPAG, NUM = NUM, RTDMS Database:
RELNAME = RYR_SYSG, ATR = D_T3113
Relevant process:
TPAG is the timer awaiting a response from the BSCs to the
BSSMAP_PAGING message. When the timer times out, paging is
considered to have failed.
Timer TPAG is linked to the timer controlling early ACM (RG_TACMAN), if
the early ACM procedure, conditioned by F-SW-003, is activated (see the
call handling module).
TPAG has a fixed value if F-PA-002 (satellite networks) or F-PA-007
(satellite networks) is set to the FALSE state.
If F-PA-002 or F-PA-007 is set to the TRUE state, it is strongly
recommended to activate the early ACM mechanism. Refer to F-SW-003
and RG_TACMAN.
Check that : TPAG RG_TACMAN Timer T1 in the SSP.
Example = D'4/ H'00000004 in seconds

Search procedure
6.15
F-PA-003 : Conditions the search signalling procedure.
Sys. Par.: PARNAME = PB_F_PA_003, NUM = BOOL.
Relevant process:
The search signalling procedure is initiated if F-PA-003 is set to FALSE and if
paging needs to be executed although the VLR has not saved the mobile's
location area: in the case of a VLR restart, for example.
In this case, the MAP_SEARCH_FOR_MS message is sent by the VLR to the
RCF instead of the MAP_PAGE message to initiate a paging procedure.
If a response is received by the RCF, then the RCF returns to the VLR the
Current Location Area Id parameter duly set.
Field values:
VRAI (TRUE): The Search procedure cannot be executed and the Absent
Subscriber error is set. The system then links to call forwarding on subscriber
not reachable (if applicable) or to broadcasting of the appropriate
announcement for the No response to Paging case.
FAUX (FALSE): The search procedure can be handled by the RCF.
