The Gazi Evrenos Mausoleum in Giannitsa, Greece has undergone several changes over the centuries. It began as a small building in the 15th century to house the tomb of Gazi Evrenos, a Turkish military leader. It was later expanded in the 17th century and early 20th century. However, it fell into disrepair in the 1920s when it was used as a cotton gin factory. The mausoleum was restored between 2006-2008 and now serves as a museum, housing an exhibit on the Victorian artist Edward Lear's tour of the region.

4. Giannitsa kasabası, 1383-1385
yılları arasında Gazi Evrenos ve
ordusu oraya yerleştiğinde ve işgal
ettiği yerde organize bir yerleşim
bulduğunda kurulmuştur.
Başlangıçta, kasaba, zorunlu nüfus
hareketi nedeniyle Doğu'dan gelen
Türk halkının yerleştiği bir bölge idi.
15. yüzyılın ortalarından itibaren ve
önümüzdeki iki yüzyıl boyunca, Gazi
Evrenos'un haleflerinin dönemi
olan Giannitsa, dini, mali ve
entelektüel bir merkez haline geldi.
5. Gazi Evrenos Bey 1288'de
Balıkesir'de dünyaya geldi
ve Bizans'ın "Uranon"
ailesinin oğluydu. İslam
dinini kabul etti ve 1359'dan
beri Osmanlı ordusuna
hizmet etti. Gazi Evrenos,
1347'de Giannitsa'yı
kullanarak Trakya,
Makedonya ve Korinthos'u
işgal etti. Giannitsa bölgesi
tümüyle, Gazi Evrenos ve
torunlarının yaşadığı yeri
oluşturuyordu. Gazi
Evrenos, 129 yaşındayken 17
Kasım 1417'de öldü. Türbesi
mezarı üzerine inşa edilmiş
ve hac yeri haline
getirilmiştir.
6. Türbe, 15. yüzyılın başlarında
başlangıçta her iki tarafında
penceresi olan, Gazi Evrenos'un
mezar zemininin altında
bulunduğu kurşunla kaplı bir
kubbe ile kaplı, oda tipi bir yapı
biçiminde inşa edilmeye başlandı.
Evligia Tselembi'ye ve pek çok
gezgine göre, oğlu ve torunları gibi
birçok aile üyesi, Türbe'nin etrafına
ya da dış bölgesine gömülmüştür.
7. Anıtın ikinci yapı aşaması 17.
yüzyılda yapılmıştır. 20.
yüzyılın başında (1908-1911),
üçüncü evrede doğuya doğru
harika bir yer eklenmiştir ve
bina T şeklini almıştır. Daha
sonra, üç küçük kubbeli düz bir
çatı ile örtülmüştür. Anıtın
camiye dönmesi de bu
dönemde gerçekleşmiştir.
8. 20'li yılların
ortalarında, 1931 yılı
civarında, Mausoleum
"güvenli" ilan edilmiş
olmasına rağmen özel
kişilere geçti ve anıta
ilk izlenimini bozan
unsurlar eklendi. Yer,
bir pamuk fabrikası
olarak kullanıldı. O
zaman, kubbe, duvar
ve dış ve iç
kabartmanın bir kısmı
yok edilmiştir.
9. 1984 yılında arazi Giannitsa Belediyesi adına kamulaştırılmış ve Uygarlık ve
Kültür Bakanlığı belediye tarafından anıtın kullanılmasına izin vermiştir.
15. Her Cuma, Cumartesi ve
Pazar günleri 10'dan
5'e kadar herkese
açıktır. Anıtta
bugünlerde Edward
Lear'ın "Giannitsa
bölgesinde bir victorian
sanatçının gezisi" adlı
eser sergilenmektedir.
