The document traces the historical development of interpretations of 1 Corinthians 8:6 from Paul in 60 AD to Origen in 250 AD. It shows how early Christian writers like Justin Martyr, Irenaeus, Theophilus, and Tertullian developed the concepts of the Trinity and eternal Sonship. Their writings moved from describing God as the Father who begat a beginning, to recognizing Jesus as the eternally begotten Son of God. This helped establish the doctrine of the Trinity while rejecting views of Sabellius and Paul of Samosata.
The document discusses the key differences between the Old and New Testaments, including that the Old Testament had an earthly calling with material offerings while the New Testament has a heavenly calling with spiritual offerings. It then discusses aspects of the assembly, including that it is the body of Christ, the house of God, and the bride of Christ. It outlines the gifts and meetings of the assembly, including breaking of bread, prayer meetings, and ministry of the word.
This is the presentation delivered on Saturday, September 27th at St. Andrew's Cathedral. It is part one in the series: Who we are, and how to share our faith.
The document provides information about the five main Levitical sacrifices presented in the Old Testament: burnt offering, meal (grain) offering, peace offering, sin offering, and trespass offering. It describes the rules and procedures for each type of offering based on passages from Leviticus, noting how each offering foreshadowed an aspect of Christ's sacrifice on the cross. The document emphasizes that through the sacrifices, God was establishing a way for people's sins to be atoned for and fellowship with him to be restored.
The document discusses the Christian family structure according to the Bible, covering the roles and duties of wives, husbands, children, and parents. It provides numerous Bible verses to support each topic. The key points covered are:
- Wives should submit to and respect their husbands. Husbands should love their wives as Christ loved the church.
- Children should obey and honor their parents. Parents should bring up children in the instruction and discipline of the Lord through teaching God's word.
- The family is designed and instituted by God, with marriage between one man and one woman. Parents have a duty to nurture and instruct their children spiritually.
This document discusses the nature of God as revealed in the Bible. It explains that the Bible presents God as one God but with three persons: God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit. Each person possesses the same divine qualities of being omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, and eternal. The Trinity is not directly named but evidenced through scripture showing each person's role in creation and salvation.
The document discusses the nature of God based on passages from the Bible. It argues that God is one entity but refers to himself in plural forms in the Bible. It also references passages that describe God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The document aims to show that the concept of the Trinity is consistent with the Old Testament portrayal of God as one, and that key attributes like eternity, power, and wisdom are ascribed to God, Jesus, and the Spirit.
Week 7 Theo Interpretation of the ChurchDevon Smith
This document provides an overview of key passages related to the church in the New Testament narrative. It discusses Jesus' Great Commission in Matthew 28, emphasizing the themes of worship, authority, baptism, and ongoing presence. It examines the purpose of Jesus' ascension in Daniel 7 and its enabling of the Spirit's sending. At Pentecost in Acts 2, the church is born as God's Spirit fills believers, making them God's temple. Passages in Isaiah, Ezekiel and Joel foretold the Spirit being poured out on the Messiah, Israel and all people. Acts 10 details how the Spirit fell on Gentiles, showing circumcision and dietary laws were no longer required.

The document provides an in-depth overview of manna as described in the Bible. It discusses what manna was, how it was given by God to the Israelites as food during their 40 years in the wilderness, and its purpose to sustain them and test their obedience. It also draws comparisons between manna and Jesus Christ, describing how manna prefigured and illustrates Christ as the bread of life. Finally, it mentions that conquering saints will be given hidden manna in heaven as a reward.
Jesus sends his holy spirit rcia-2010-11-amaximilianyong
The document discusses the person and role of the Holy Spirit according to Christian scripture and theology. It describes the Holy Spirit as the third person of the Holy Trinity, co-equal with God the Father and Son. Several Bible verses are presented showing Jesus promising the disciples that he would send the Holy Spirit to be with and empower them. The gifts, symbols and names associated with the Holy Spirit are explored, including fire, water, wind, comforter and advocate. The Holy Spirit's role in inspiring the Church and empowering believers with spiritual gifts is summarized.
1. John has a vision of Jesus Christ appearing gloriously among seven golden lampstands which represent the seven churches of Asia.
2. Jesus is described with white hair, fiery eyes, a voice like rushing waters, and feet like burnished bronze. He holds seven stars in his right hand, which represent the angels or messengers of the seven churches.
3. The vision causes John to fall down in fear before Jesus, but Jesus reassures him and instructs him to write letters to the seven churches about what he has seen and will see.
The document discusses the nature of the Holy Spirit according to the Bible and writings of Ellen White. It argues that the Holy Spirit is not a separate person but is the Spirit of God and the Spirit of Christ, and is Christ's personal presence. Several Bible texts and quotes from Ellen White are presented that indicate the Holy Spirit is how God and Christ are personally present with believers, and is the life and power of Christ within them. The document aims to show that the Holy Spirit is not a separate being from God or Christ, but is God and Christ's own Spirit.
The document presents 17 titles for God (Jehovah) found in the Bible, providing the reference verse for each title and a brief context. Some of the titles mentioned include Jehovah Jireh (The Lord Who Provides, Genesis 22:14), Jehovah Ropheka (The Lord Who Heals You, Exodus 15:26), Jehovah Nissi (The Lord My Banner, Exodus 17:15), and Jehovah Shammah (The Lord Is There, Ezekiel 48:35). The document aims to provide a study on the different names and aspects of God found in scripture.
The document discusses God's plan for mankind across different dispensations or time periods. It outlines 7 key dispensations: 1) Innocence 2) Conscience 3) Human Government 4) Promise 5) Law 6) Church 7) Millennium. Each dispensation ended due to man's failure to obey God until the coming of Jesus Christ and establishment of the Church through Pentecost. The Church age is currently ongoing and will end at the rapture prior to the Millennial dispensation and final judgment.
The document discusses the key points of Christianity regarding eternal life. It explains that man was originally created to live forever but lost eternal life when Adam and Eve disobeyed God. It describes how Jesus Christ offers salvation and eternal life as a free gift to all who accept him through faith. The document provides biblical quotes and verses about God's plan for salvation and urges readers to accept this gift of eternal life through believing in Jesus.
The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Godhead and played an important role in God's creation and plan of salvation. The Holy Spirit revealed God's word through inspiration of prophets and apostles. He confirmed the message through the apostles' preaching and gifts. The Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin and regenerates believers through obedience to the gospel. He sanctifies Christians and leads, strengthens, and comforts them as they continue in obedience.
This document contains the text of a Catholic mass. It includes opening prayers, readings from scripture, prayers of the faithful, preparation of gifts, Eucharistic prayer, communion rites, and closing prayers. The mass focuses on themes of God's love, marriage, welcoming children into the kingdom of God, and living simply.
The document discusses the Godhead according to the Bible. It summarizes that the Bible teaches there is one God, who is the Father of Jesus Christ. God begat Christ from eternity past, passing His life, character, glory, name, and Spirit to His only begotten Son. While Christ inherited full equality with God, He submitted to His Father. The Holy Spirit is defined as the very Spirit of God and Christ, and not a separate divine being.
The document summarizes Genesis 1:1-19, which describes the creation of light and darkness on day 1, the creation of the sky on day 2, the separation of land and water and creation of vegetation on day 3, and the creation of the sun, moon, and stars on day 4. It discusses debates around whether plants were created with seeds already present or in full maturity, as well as debates around apparent age creationism. The document also examines biblical references to God stretching out the heavens and implications for the speed of light reaching Earth during the creation days.
The document discusses the rapture doctrine and whether the Bible teaches it. It summarizes that most denominations teach there will be a secret rapture where faithful Christians are taken away before tribulation. However, the only Bible passage used to support this, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, instead teaches that the dead will be resurrected and living believers will rise together to meet Christ, not be secretly taken away beforehand. The document concludes the rapture teaching was a recent development and the Bible teaches of a single resurrection and judgment of all, not a secret prior rapture.
WHO ARE YOU? Can your SOUL DIE? What is MANKINDS' Hope after DEATH?Linus Daniel
One of the most important doctrines of the New Testament scriptures is the Hope of Resurrection. We will consider biblical answers to many interesting question such as: If we automatically go to heaven or hell at death, what is significance of the resurrection and judgment? What will life be like for people on earth after resurrection is passed?, etc.
The document provides an in-depth overview of the rapture according to Christian eschatology. It defines the rapture as the event where living Christians will be caught up to meet Jesus in the air. It discusses the key Bible passages about the rapture in 1 Thessalonians and outlines the five major positions on its timing. The document argues that evidence from the Thessalonian letters and a survey of Scripture support a pre-tribulation rapture view, where Christians will be delivered from the wrath of God before the tribulation begins.
The document discusses the second coming of Christ based on biblical teachings. It covers what the second coming is, the signs that will precede it, and how believers should respond. The key points are:
- The second coming will be personal and visible, in which Christ returns to establish his kingdom and judge unbelievers.
- Signs preceding it will include religious delusion, wars, natural disasters, and the re-establishment of Israel as a nation.
- Believers should watch and pray, evangelize others, and live holy lives as they wait patiently for Christ's return. The rapture will come secretly to take believers before the tribulation.
From the creation the moral law was an essential part of God’s divine plan, and was as unchangeable as Himself. The ceremonial law was to answer a particular purpose in Christ’s plan for the salvation of the race
This document discusses the rapture as described in 1 Thessalonians 4:15-18. It presents different views on the timing of the rapture in relation to the seven-year tribulation period mentioned in biblical prophecy. The pre-tribulation position suggests the rapture occurs before the seven years, removing the church from earth. The mid-tribulation view places it at the midpoint. The post-tribulation position has the rapture occurring after the full seven years at Christ's second coming. The document examines scriptural evidence for each view but does not take a definitive stance, concluding the most important thing is to be ready for Christ's return at any time.
This document discusses the divinity of Christ based on biblical passages. It provides evidence from the Bible that Jesus is the Son of God. Peter confesses that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. When on trial, Jesus affirms to the high priest that he is the Son of God. The foundation of the Christian faith is Jesus Christ - no other foundation can be laid. It also explores the divinity of the Holy Spirit, discussing how the Spirit represents the invisible presence of God and is not a distinct being.
The Holy Spirit came upon the apostles and others gathered in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost. They began speaking in other languages as the Spirit gave them utterance. When the crowds heard this, they were amazed because each person heard the believers speaking in their own native language. Peter addressed the crowd and explained that this was the fulfillment of the prophet Joel's prophecy about God pouring out His Spirit on all people. Some in the crowd mocked that the believers were drunk, but Peter said it was too early in the day and they were experiencing what God had promised through the prophet.
God and His Son are two distinct, individual persons. While fully united in purpose and character, they are not identical. God is the Father of Christ, who is His Son. The Scriptures, including Christ's prayer in John 17, clearly portray both the relation and separate personalities of God and Christ. They have existed in complete unity from eternity.
The document discusses the cross of Christ and its significance for salvation. It explains that through Christ's death on the cross, all of humanity died with Him as our representative, freeing us from the condemnation of sin and the power of sin. Believers must accept that they died with Christ on the cross in order to be made alive in Him and empowered to live holy lives. The cross is how God solved the problem of how an innocent person could die for the guilty, through Christ becoming our substitute and taking our place under the condemnation of sin.

1. The document discusses how God dwells within believers through His Spirit and Jesus Christ. It provides many Bible verses showing that the Spirit of God and Christ live in Christians.
2. It also explains that Jesus is the means by which God reaches humanity and how we can reach God. All things were created through Jesus, and we can only come to God through Him.
3. In the final paragraph, a poem calls for Jesus to come into one's heart, as there is room for Him there. It reflects on how Jesus had no home on earth but offers one's heart as His dwelling place.
In this beautiful presentation you will see from Scripture that Jesus, the begotten Son of the Father has inherited ALL THINGS from His Father. The Fountarian View of God is clearly presented! The Father is the Source/Fountain flowing through His Son the River of Life to the entire universe. Jesus naturally inherited Divinity from His Father but CHOSE to inherit humanity. We naturally inherit humanity from Adam but we must CHOOSE to inherit the Divine Life of Jesus! Beautiful truth!! Life giving truth!
The document contains a 10 question true/false quiz about the concept of sin and its origins according to the Bible. The questions cover topics such as whether babies are born sinless, whether committing sins makes one a sinner, the effects of Adam's sin on humanity, and the Bible's use of Adam as an example of Christ's redemption. The answers provided indicate that most of the statements are false, except for ones about the Bible using different words to describe sin and its use of Adam as a pattern for Christ's redemption.
One Man - Three Exalted Names
The document discusses Christ having three names - "God" was His inherited name in heaven, "Michael" was His symbolic name in heaven prior to incarnation, and "Jesus" was the name given to Him at His human birth.
It then examines Christ as the "last Adam" or "second Adam," comparing Him to the first Adam. It outlines how Christ inherited some of God the Father's attributes and was given the role of resurrecting, redeeming, and adopting children for God's kingdom, making Him like an "everlasting Father."
Lesson 2 of 2 on the Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ. This lesson focuses on the Old Testament Evidence that Christ is God, along with the names, attributes, and works of Christ.
God created all things, both visible and invisible, in six days by speaking his Word. He formed the heavens and the earth out of nothing and breathed life into humanity. The document discusses creation through examination of Genesis passages and references in other books of the Bible. It considers the two perspectives of creationism and addresses how God created and maintains sovereignty over all things as maker of heaven and earth.
The document discusses the nature of the Godhead based on passages from the Bible. It asks and answers several questions about whether the Bible refers to God as one or three, and whether terms like Father, Son, and Holy Spirit refer to separate persons or roles. The document concludes that the mystery of the Godhead can be understood from passages indicating that fully God was manifested in the flesh in Jesus Christ, who revealed the Father and is the Alpha and Omega.
The document discusses the Holy Trinity - the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as one God. This document outlines the four things God calls the church to do: belong, grow, serve, and share. It focuses on the first one, belong, which means connecting to God and each other as the church. It says the first letter in "belong" is E, for exalting Christ in everything. It gives biblical reasons to exalt Christ, such as that he is God, the creator, and head of the church. The overall message is that Christians should connect with each other by exalting and worshipping Christ as the central focus of the church.

POWER AND EXTENT OF THE PRIESTHOOD
What has just been said is emphasised by the scripture which tells us the
power by which Christ is priest. It is "the power of an endless life." Heb. vii. 25. It
is the power of eternity in all its breadth, as well as in its length. By Himself Christ
has purged sins. Heb. i. 3. He is a minister of the sanctuary, and of the true
tabernacle which the Lord pitched, and not man, in that He ministers His sinless,
eternal life to sinners condemned to death.
Now from His first "goings forth," "from the days of eternity," Christ has been
ministering life. It was "through the eternal Spirit that He offered Himself without
spot to God." Heb. ix. 14. Thus He has a priesthood extending from eternity to eternity-"an unchangeable priesthood" because "He ever liveth." Because He
was priest by virtue of the endless life that He had, He would offer Himself to God
for our sins. But in doing this, no new power was brought into existence, no new
office was devised. When sin entered, the priestly office and power to cope with it
were already there by virtue of Christ's endless life. The new conditions did not
surprise the Lord, nor find Him unprepared for them. No tax was made upon his resources. Here was a dam by which Satan thought to stop the flow of the river
of life; but that mighty stream rolls on in its majestic course, sweeping away
every obstacle, and swallowing it up. No new fountain had to be opened, to
increase its volume; for the fountain of living waters is He who fills heaven and
earth and is from everlasting to everlasting, inhabiting eternity.

The document provides a lesson on salvation and baptism according to Christian theology. It states that salvation is only possible through accepting Jesus Christ, and requires confession of sin and faith in Jesus. Baptism is an ordinance of Christ that symbolizes his death, burial and resurrection, and should only be performed on believers who consciously decide to follow him. The Holy Spirit indwells believers and seals their salvation, which was made possible solely by God's grace through Jesus reconciling people to God.
The Christ of Christmas is more than just a baby in a manger. He is the eternal Creator, the incarnate God, the Savior of the world, the risen Lord and the coming King. Discover what happened before the beginning. All things were created by Him and for Him and in Him all things consist. Everything was completed in Him before creation began.

This document provides biblical passages that illustrate how Abraham and other patriarchs foreshadowed aspects of Jesus Christ and the plan of redemption. It discusses how Abraham's intended sacrifice of his son Isaac on Mount Moriah prefigured God sacrificing His son Jesus for the salvation of humanity. It also discusses how Abraham rescued his nephew Lot from captors, representing how Jesus rescues humanity. The document explores various biblical types and shadows that pointed to Jesus, including Melchizedek, the sacrificial system, and dealings with Israel.
This document discusses the three angels' messages and the Godhead. It asserts that the Seventh-day Adventist church was raised up to preach the three angels' messages about worshipping the Creator, the fall of Babylon, and the mark of the beast. It contrasts the biblical teaching of three distinct persons in the Godhead with the erroneous Trinity doctrine. It encourages readers to choose whether they will follow the true God or false gods like the Trinity.
The document discusses the oneness of God (Allah) from both Christian and Islamic perspectives. It provides quotes from the Bible and Quran emphasizing that God is one and has no partners. It also discusses the status of Jesus in Islam, stating that Muslims believe Jesus was a prophet but not divine. The document outlines the five pillars of Islam that form the basis of Islamic faith and worship.
1) In order to save mankind, God united our sinful human nature with Christ's divine nature so that Christ could legally act as our substitute and representative.
2) Through His perfect life and sacrificial death, Christ satisfied all legal demands and qualified us for salvation by changing our status from condemned to justified.
3) We can only receive this salvation by faith, as it is a free gift from God through Christ and not earned through works.
This document contains a 10 question true/false quiz about the amazing love of God. The questions cover topics such as the different Greek words used to describe love in the Bible, God's unconditional love as one of his characteristics, and whether understanding God's love is necessary to fully understand the Gospel. The answers provided indicate that while God's love is different from human love, understanding it is key to comprehending the Gospel.
The document discusses the concept of God's love and how it differs from human love. It explains that God's love is unconditional, unchanging, and self-emptying, while human love is conditional, changeable, and self-seeking. Some early church fathers tried to replace the biblical concept of God's agape love with eros love from Greek philosophy, which led to a misunderstanding of the gospel.
The document discusses the sin problem that affects all humanity as a result of Adam's original sin. It explains that every person is born sinful and unable to attain righteousness on their own. The only solution and hope of salvation is through Jesus Christ, who came to save sinners and redeem humanity from the condemnation and slavery of sin.
The document contains a quiz about the inspiration and authority of the Bible. The questions test beliefs such as: the Word of God refers to Christ; the Bible's focus is on Christ, not just the patriarchs; the thoughts and message came directly from God, not just from the writers themselves; and the purpose is to convey God's plan of salvation through Christ. Getting guidance from the Holy Spirit is important when studying scripture. Science cannot determine the truth of the Bible; only scripture can interpret scripture.
The document discusses the inspiration and authority of the Bible. It asserts that the Bible is the written Word of God, given through holy men as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. While the prophets spoke from God, they were not the authors and did not always understand fully what they wrote. The process of inspiration was not dictation, but the Spirit moving men to express truth in their own words. The whole Bible centers on revealing Jesus Christ as the focus and source of eternal life.
The document contains a 10 question true/false quiz about how God saved humanity in Christ. The questions cover topics like God living a perfect life for humanity, the "In Christ" motif being at the core of the gospel, biblical solidarity, vicarious substitution, and the concept that salvation is ongoing rather than a single event. The answers to the quiz are then provided.
The document discusses the 144,000 in the book of Revelation. It states that before the end of the world, the gospel will be preached everywhere as a witness. At that time, all people will have aligned with either Christ or Satan. The Bible describes the final showdown between God's people (the remnant) and Satan's people. The remnant are the last generation of Christians who will endure the great tribulation and remain faithful to Christ. The document explores that this remnant of 144,000 believers will be sealed by God before the tribulation.
1) God demonstrated His unconditional love by sending Jesus to die for humanity while we were still sinners. Through His death, Christ reconciled humans to God and allows God to forgive sins.
2) The Jewish law required death to atone for sins, which animal sacrifices could not fulfill. Jesus' sacrifice on the cross paid the full price for sins once and for all.
3) By faith in Christ's sacrifice, God can now legally justify sinners.
The document discusses the nature and presence of God through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. It asserts that:
1. Jesus Christ, fully God and fully man, acts as the mediator between God and humanity.
2. The Holy Spirit represents the presence of God and Christ on earth after Christ's ascension. As Christ is now in heaven, the Spirit dwells within believers.
3. God is omnipresent through His Spirit, and believers can experience a close relationship with God and Christ through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
The document discusses the identity of the Comforter mentioned in John 14:16. It presents evidence that the Comforter is God the Father, not another person of the Godhead, by citing multiple Bible verses that reference God or the Father as the comforter. It also argues that presenting the Comforter as a different person than God the Father would obscure the unique relationship between God the Father and Jesus Christ.
1) The gospel is the good news of salvation accomplished by Jesus' life, death, and resurrection.
2) It is a message of forgiveness of sins for all people, rich and poor alike, through faith in Christ alone.
3) The gospel reveals God's righteousness and is his power to save sinners from sin and its consequences.
The document discusses the difference between man's sinful "bios" life and Christ's sinless divine "zoe" life. It explains that through the incarnation, Christ united his zoe life with our bios life, allowing him to legally become our substitute and representative. By dying on the cross, our bios life died for eternity, and in exchange we received Christ's zoe life through his resurrection. Now through faith, believers share in Christ's eternal zoe life and are adopted as God's children.
The document discusses evidence from the Old Testament that suggests Jesus existed with God the Father from the beginning. It notes that the Hebrew letter Aleph represents God and an ox/bull, pointing to the Father and Son. Other Hebrew letters like Lamed represent concepts like guide and authority that apply to the relationship between the Father and Son. The document presents additional examples from Scripture depicting the Father and Son sharing glory and power, such as the two crowns on the table of showbread.
The document discusses key doctrines of Christianity including the Trinity, which it defines as the central doctrine proposing God as three persons in one being. It lists other Catholic doctrines like transubstantiation, Mary as queen of heaven, immaculate conception, and eternal hellfire. It discusses biblical references to God's spirit and searching spirits, addressing the tritheistic versus consubstantial nature of the godhead with the father, son, and spirit. The document seems to analyze and critique different interpretations of the trinity and other Christian theological concepts.

Editor's Notes
Paul’s simple statement of belief in God is the foundation of all church creeds. It is found in 1Cor 8:6.The words are simple yet packed with meaning. We will carefully unpack them by comparing the apostle’s own comments on them, “comparing spiritual things with spiritual.”
Let’s start by observing the context in which Paul makes his declaration of faith in the one God.We “know nothing yet”, we don’t know anything yet, as we ought to know. Now we see through a glass darkly, but then face to face! This is God’s promise! Rev 22:4 “And they shall see His face, and His name shall be in their foreheads”If we love God, God knows us. And when He comes and He knocks on our door, and we open the door, He says, “I know you! I will come in and sup with you!” So, those who come knocking on His door after it is shut and He says, “I never knew you” do not really love God.If you love God, He knows you; If you do not love God, He does not know you.God begins the transcript of His character by assuring us that we will need no other god—because I brought you out of the land of Egypt on eagle’s wings, I will supply all your needs; I will be the only God you will ever need. Men have created many gods and many lords. The heathen pantheons are full of them. They worship they know not what.
Now Paul clearly and succinctly describes the one true God.
The Christ-headThe Man-headThe God-head……not a group, but an Authority, HeadmasterGodhead as a group, a committee, a collection of Deity, a trinity is a misconceptionSanctuary in 1844 was a misconception: the earth Godhead is not a trinity, but the one God of whom are all things;Sanctuary is not the earth, but the temple of God built without hands.
We are the members of Christ’s Body, of which He is the Head.
Man is head of the household, the house-band, the protector and provider for the family.
God is the headship of His Son, He has given His Son all things, the Great Provider and Source.
Notice the parallel relationships of Source and Creator, of whom and by whom.
11:7 For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.
11:8 For the man is not of the woman: but the woman of the man.
Now the relationship of “for” is discussed. It is based on the sequence of events.Man, Adam, was formed first then the Woman, Eve.Just as Man was made first, then the Sabbath was provided FOR man.
Eve came out of Adam, she was “OF” the man.But then “BY” Eve, the woman, all men have been born.Genesis3:20 And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.
