1. Keyword Picture Search with Online Resources
Students will listen for 3 keywords in the song ‘3 R’s’.
Students will use ISL online research tools to search for
images of keywords from our unit – Environment,
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
Students will work in groups of 2 and choose one image
to print.

Students will work in small groups and use printed
images to observe, to form ideas, and to generate
questions, which will guide our inquiry.

Students will use online database tools in a whole group
to generate a list of library resources, and will work in
small groups to locate titles to check out.
Selected titles will be used during read-alouds to
research our inquiry questions.

Students will collect trash for one day and photograph
it. The class will use graphic organizers on ActiveInspire
to label specific pieces of trash.
Students will use the online game ‘Michael Michael go
recycle’ to practice sorting and recycling.
Students will sort the pieces of trash from their
photograph into groups using ActiveInspire and then
sort the real trash into the same groups.

Students will recycle items from the sorted trash into
school receptacles located in various parts of the
building.
As homework, Students and families will send in a photo
of using their building or commune recycling center.
5. Making Good Choices Art Activity
Students will draw at least one choice they can make to
take responsibility for their trash. Students will
collectively create a simple rubric to show how they
know they have completed the task, telling what the
drawing should include.
