Translating Visual Information into Tactile InformationVernee Hemphill
The main focus of this presentation will be looking in depth at tactile graphics and give insight into processing them. We will look at the process of translating a visual graphic into a tactile graphic using a library of textures and line weights. For every textbook processed at Central Access, we gain valuable insight and experience on a range of material. By working directly with blind students, our processes are constantly evolving in order to provide the best product. We will look at examples of changes made in technical details that provide better tactual distinguish-ability. We will also look at examples of extreme cases (anatomy diagrams, astronomy images, campus maps) and problem-solving strategies for how to handle them.
Ray Pidzamecky M.S.W. RSW says “Youth of today are the promise of the future and represent a tremendous untapped resource. They are energetic, positive and are extremely well positioned to support others in their peer groups. Through inexpensive and purposeful training, young people themselves can provide an effective and efficient resource to one another and support caregivers responsible for the well-being of today’s youth.”

Primary Goals:
To create a youth-oriented programme which:
1) engages the participants in a First Nation’s culturally rich experience;
2) trains participants with valuable skills for supporting other youth;
3) exposes youth to the wisdom of the Elders who are valuable resources;
4) provides youth with supports for social issues faced within their community;
5) creates a long-term youth-oriented program providing non-athletic options.
To create a program, which the community sees as a positive and supportive agenda, benefitting the community through the involvement of youth.
To train the adult leadership for on-going training and support of the students in the program.
To build a common or shared set of peer skills between Elders and youth.
Activating Community Partnerships for Education - Community Chest Issues SummitKirsten Richert
On March 22, 2019, The Community Chest of Eastern Bergen County hosted a Summit on Education—"Activating Community Partnerships for Education"—an important event focused on building partnerships to strengthen K-12 educational outcomes in eastern Bergen County. This program featured expert presentations and enabled participants to meet and work with people from all sectors—citizens, public officials, school administrators, nonprofit representatives, faith-based organizations, business owners, and community leaders—on this critical issue.
Participants in this Summit:
• Were inspired by models of successful School-Community partnerships currently supporting our local schools in Bergen County.
• Discovered potential partnership resources and met new contacts in our area.
• Generated ideas and learned how to further develop promising partnerships.
This presentation was used to guide participants through the day's agenda. Please contact The Community Chest of Eastern Bergen County with questions or follow up suggestions at https://thecommunitychestebc.org/
Community Development Programs for New Partners of The Muskoka FoundationJay Shapiro
An introduction for communities and philanthropy organizations that are thinking about partnering with The Muskoka Foundation. If you know of a local village, NGO or developing community in Africa, South America, or Asia, that might be interested in working with our volunteers, please contact us!
It is a privilege to present our annual report to you. We have had another incredible year of Change Agent Magic - contributing our special puzzle piece to crime prevention and diversion in our beautiful South Africa.
It moves my soul to experience how those we journey with allow themselves the experience of awakening to more of themselves and a deeper sense of purpose. I often say to our students:
>>Do not underestimate the ripple of your awakening<<
We experience its heartwarming impact on how we live and (un)learn together. A living and (un)learning that is authentic and kind… that is generous… that is honest and transparent… that stretches and encourages… that heals our wounds and edits our old stories. It is a living and (un)learning that allows the student their own unique path… also the tough patches! There is nothing more liberating than >>walking the plank<< of a perception!
Come with me. Experience the unique unfolding of a Change Agent Journey. Students awakening to their inner coach, healer and guide and firing up their entrepreneurial spirit all while assisting and guiding others to do the same.
In Gratitude

A funding proposal written for The Young Americans, a 501(c)3 based in California. The funding proposal asks for support for a music outreach program. This document was written by me and three other students for an assignment.
Music Basti' was started in 2008 to work with and empower street children through music. The project is currently working to develop a music program that teaches the children about music as well integrates messages about human rights education and life skills. It focuses on helping the children to develop self- identity, value orientation and attitudes. Alongside this, it endeavors to join together community needs of children at risk, particularly street children and urban slum children, with the efforts of the music community.
Music Basti is run by IDEA (Integrated Development Education Association), and supported by The YP Foundation. It works with Aman Biradari, and Bridge Music Academy. Music Basti was selected for the Change Looms development and assessment program in July 2009, the program supports the work of young people working for social change (Pravah and Ashoka).
The project has worked with various musicians and volunteers in Delhi, combining professionals with student volunteers and musicians. It aims to develop a collaborative and positive relationship between the music community, individuals and institutions, and through them raise awareness about the issue of child rights, and the use of the arts, particularly music to create this awareness.

6. PROGRAM ELEMENTS
6
Self Esteem & Self Awareness
Allow students to perform and
showcase their work and talent,
building self confidence and esteem.
Arts Appreciation
Through partnerships, create
opportunities to allow arts education
to continue through a series of
opportunities beyond the classroom
setting. (i.e. Smith Center, Molodi,
Nevada Arts Council, etc.)
Teacher Development
Provide teachers with additional tools
to help engage students, building self
esteem, awareness of the arts, and
appreciation for their unique gifts and
talents.
Education Thru Arts Expression
Create a program that allows students
to learn key lessons thru self
expression and sharing with their
classmates.
8. THE CONCEPT
The Wiz made Broadway history
in 1975 when it transformed
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz into
a celebration of African American
culture.
Without changing
the main characters, plot, or
themes,TheWiz reimagined the
story from an African American
perspective, adding soul music,
style, and a fresh, funky twist to
the beloved classic.
8
9. THE CONCEPT
9
Using the story of The Wiz as a
frame of reference, 4th grade
students will work with teachers and
the Molodi dancers to create a visual
story of their JourneyToThe Emerald
City.
Teachers will be given a resource
guide and students will work with
Molodi artists during their Physical
Education period.
10. THE CONCEPT
10
Where Is Home
Dorothy sings about her wish to return home
in the song Home.Think about your own
home. How would you finish the first line of
Dorothy’s song? When I think of home . . .
Believe In Yourself
What doesThe Wiz teach us about the
power of believing in yourself? What happens
in the story to make Dorothy and her friends
believe in themselves? How do they learn to
stop focusing on what they want and look
inside themselves instead to and the power
they’ve had all along? Relate this to a personal
experience.
11. THE CONCEPT
11
Believe In Your Future
Write a poem/draw a picture from the
future in which you describe how believing
in yourself helped you get something
you wanted. Maybe it helped you get a
college degree. Maybe it helped you
succeed in sports or get your dream job.
Maybe it helped you become President of
the United States! Let your hopes and
dreams tell you what you can be, and
imagine how believing in yourself could
make those dreams come true.
