School Nickname
“Bronchos” was the nickname selected
for Central Oklahoma in 1922 by Mrs.
C.W. Wantland, wife of long-time UCO
football coach C.W. Wantland. The name
was chosen from a number of suggestions
for the name of UCO’s football team and
became the nickname for all athletic teams
at the school.
Mrs. Wantland was made an honorary
member of the Letterman’s Club as a result
of selecting the nickname, becoming the
first woman admitted to that organization.
School Colors
Bronze and blue were chosen as Central
Oklahoma’sschoolcolorsin1895byschool
president Edmund Dandridge Murdaugh.
The first public display of the bronze
and blue was in Guthrie when a student
represented UCO in the first oratorical
contest ever held in Oklahoma.

UCO Soccer Staff Directory
Central Oklahoma plays its home games at Tom Thompson Field, located just east of
Hamilton Field House on campus.
The field is named for UCO graduate Tom Thompson, who donated funds to help
start the soccer program in 1998, and it now ranks as one of the finest soccer facilities in
NCAA Division II after undergoing a massive renovation four years ago.
UCO has enjoyed great success on its home field, entering the 2015 season with a glit-
tering 124-30-8 (79.0 winning percentage) record in the facility. The Bronchos played
their first home game on Sept. 13, 1998, beating St. Gregory’s 3-0.
UCO has also played 15 home games away from Tom Thompson Field, having gone
12-2 at Wantland Stadium and 0-1 at the Edmond Soccer Club Field. The Bronchos drew
what was then an NCAADivision II-record 2,139 fans to Wantland Stadium in 2008 in a
game against Dallas Baptist and went 8-2 while playing all 10 home games there in 2010.

MikeCook
Mike Cook has been with the Central Oklahoma soccer program
since its inception, having built the Bronchos into a perennial NCAA
Division II power.
Cook came to UCO in 1998 and has guided the Bronchos to an
amazing 253-90-24 record over the past 17 years. He has a 22-
year women’s record of 341-112-25, ranking among the Division
II coaching leaders in all-time wins and winning percentage (74.0).
Mike has led UCO six regular-season conference titles, five league
tournament crowns and 10 national playoff appearances. He earned
Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year accolades six times and was named Midwest Regional
Coach of the Year twice.
Cook has coached 86All-Conference players, 54All-Region players and sevenAll-Americans
during his highly-successful tenure at Central.
The veteran coach led UCO to an 11-9 record in its first year in 1998 and the Bronchos went
13-5-1 in 1999 while breaking into the Division II top 20 rankings for the first time.
UCO finished 21-3 in 2000 in winning both the regular season and league tournament titles
to make its first national playoff appearance, beating Colorado Mesa in the first round before
falling to eventual champion UC San Diego in the quarterfinals.
The Bronchos followed that with a 15-6 campaign in 2001, then won the LSC Tournament and
made the national playoffs again in 2002 during a 20-3 campaign. UCO made a repeat national
tournament appearance in 2003 in going 15-5-2, then went 13-6-2 and won the LSC title in 2004.
Cook led the Bronchos to a 16-3-2 record and a second consecutive league crown in 2005
before losing a shootout in the playoffs. UCO captured a third straight LSC championship in
2006 and lost in a shootout in the national tournament to finish 18-3-1.
The Bronchos claimed a fourth consecutive conference regular-season title and made its
longest Division II playoff run in 2007, winning two games to make the Sweet 16 during a
19-5-1 campaign.
UCO had its four-year string of league
titles ended in 2008 in finishing 13-6-3, but
rebounded the next year to go 14-6-3 in win-
ning the LSC Tournament crown and making
it back to the national tournament. The Bron-
chos went 11-8-1 in 2010 and finished 15-4
in 2011 to qualify for the national playoffs.
Central was runner-up in its first season in
the MIAA in 2012 and made it back to the
national tournament in finishing 16-3-3. The
Bronchos had their first-ever losing season
(9-10-2) in 2013, but rebounded strong last
season to go 14-5-3 and make it to the second round of the Division II playoffs.
Mike came to UCO after a stellar career at Southern Nazarene. He was an assistant coach
for SNU’s men from 1987-92 before serving as head coach for both the men’s and women’s
teams from 1993-97, going 88-22-1 with a pair of third-place NAIA national finishes with the
women and 58-44-2 with the men.
Cook was a two-timeAll-Southwest Region performer as a player at SNU and spent nine years
in professional soccer. He’s a member of the United Soccer Leagues Hall of Fame.
A native of Toronto, Canada, Mike received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from
SNU. He’s married (Sandy) and has two children (Cody and Taylor).

Assistant Coach
Amel Muhamedagic
In his ninth year as Central Oklahoma’s top assistant coach is Amel
Muhamedagic, a former college head coach in Iowa who joined the staff
in 2007.
Muhamedagic has helped the Bronchos to a 111-47-15 record over the
past eight years while working with defenders and goalkeepers, having
helped coach 26 All-Conference, 21 All-Region and three All-America
players. He’s also involved in recruiting, on-field training, scouting and
game preparation.
Amel coached goalkeepers Brandi Bartley and Elle Stover last year when the Bronchos registered
a school-record 15 shutouts. The previous record of 13 shutouts is one he helped set in his first year
at UCO in 2007 with keeper Carly Fisher as UCO reached its highest-ever national ranking (No.
4). In 2009, Muhamedagic guided goalkeeper Megan Riley when UCO tied the school record with
13 shutouts.
Amel was a standout player at Waterloo (Iowa) High School and then played three years for the
Northern Iowa club team, earning both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from UNI.
Muhamedagic started his coaching career on the high school and club level for several years before
spending three years as head coach at Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with the team
setting a school record for wins in 2005.
A native of Bosnia, is married (Cynthia) and has three daughters (Mia, Leila and Ella).

andfive assists last year in earning second-team
All-Region honors.
Senior Paige Matacchiera will move to the
middle from her forward position last season,
junior Kenna Dyess should see extended action
and sophomore Courtney Essary will also play
a big role.
Joining the veterans in the midfield are fresh-
men Sophia Alvarez, Casey Herndon, Kentia
Kokis, Callie McLaughlin, Caitlin Moore,
Victoria Neblett and Skye Wardell.
Cook Says: “As always we will
be very deep and talented in the
midfield with several returning
players. They will definitely
be challenged by a large group of
incoming freshmen who are all tal-
ented and ready to contribute.”
Defender
UCO posted a school-record
15 shutouts last season and a
veteran defensive unit led by
four upperclassmen will be
tough to score on again this fall.
Senior All-American Quinn
Tookey spearheads the defense,
which also features senior Court-
ney Cox and juniors Ashley Mc-
Daniel and Kenzie Sublett.
Freshmen Ashley Farley, Camrie
Hurst and Ashley Snider provide
great depth for the Bronchos.
Cook Says: “We return strong lead-
ership with two seniors and will call on
the experience of some juniors as well.
Strengthening and giving added options will be
three freshmen who are very athletic and come
from very competitive club programs.”
Goalkeeper
The Bronchos return just one goalkeeper this
season in sophomore Elle Stover.
Stover posted seven shutouts with 33 saves
last season in earning valuable experience and is
the front-runner to be the main stopper. She will
be joined by freshmen Lexie Bates, Caroline
Howard and Ally Salls.
Cook Says: “We feel like we will be fairly
deep and strong at the goalkeeping position.
Elle gained some good experience playing last
year and we’ve also added three very talented
freshmen.”
Restocked and reloaded for 2015 is a Central
Oklahoma team ready to make another run at the
NCAA Division II national tournament.
The Bronchos return 12 players -- including
five starters -- from last season’s 14-5-3 squad
that made it to the second round of the Division
II playoffs and are bolstered by a large recruiting
class filled with players ready to make an
immediate impact.
All that gives veteran head coach
Mike Cook ample reason to be excit-
ed about UCO’s chances of competing
for the Mid-America Intercollegiate
Athletics Association championship
and making a deep run in the national
tournament.
“We really feel like this group
will be exciting to coach and has
the all the necessary pieces to have
a very successful season,” said Cook,
who is 253-90-24 in 17 years at
UCO. “They’re all talented, hard-
working and have the mentality of
approaching every challenge with
the mental toughness to get the
job done every game.
“We have a great returning group of girls
with good leadership and experience from
a tough spring schedule. The recruiting
class is full of young players that we feel
are talented, competitive and will definitely
push for playing time right away. The main goal
is always to win the MIAA, which would give us
a chance to move on to post-season play.”
A position-by-position look at the
Bronchos:
Forward
Senior Kimberly Linder will look to play an
expanded role after appearing in 18 games for the
Bronchos last season and notching two assists.
She will be joined by sophomore Darla Hyde.
There will be plenty of playing time avail-
able for talented freshmen Morgan Cherry,
Falyn Dodd, Blaire Ferguson, Asha Haile and
Katie Killion.
Cook Says: “This group will definitely be
counted on to score goals and help us win games.
We’ll have a lot of speed and potential up top.”
Midfielder
Senior Emily Precure leads the way in the
midfield after scoring 11 points with three goals

2015 UCO Soccer
CentralOklahoma rode a tough defense
and potent offense to its best season in five
years during 2014.
The Bronchos overcame a season-
opening loss with four straight wins and
went on to finish 14-5-3 behind a school-
record 15 shutouts in returning to the
NCAA Division II national tournament
after a one-year hiatus.
“We played great de-
fense all year and had
a really good season,”
head coach Mike Cook
said. “We struggled with
our offensive consisten-
cy, but the girls played
hard and it was good to
get back to the national
tournament.”
UCO opened the
season by welcoming
nationally ranked Min-
nesota State-Mankato
to Tom Thompson Field
on Sept. 7, but dropped a
tough 3-0 decision. The
Bronchos followed that with wins over
intrastate rivals Oklahoma Christian and
Southwestern Oklahoma, rolling to a 5-0
road rout over the Eagles before cruising
past the Bulldogs 3-1 at home.
A 1-0 win against Upper Iowa in the
final non-conference game gave UCO a
3-1 record and the Bronchos opened Mid-
America IntercollegiateAthleticsAssocia-
tion play at Northeastern State with a 2-0
victory over the RiverHawks.
UCO suffered its worst loss of the sea-
son two days later, falling to Southwest
Baptist 4-1 at home, but the Bronchos
responded to that setback by rattling off a
five-game unbeaten run.
That streak started with a 1-0 road vic-
tory over Missouri Western as Reagan
Ballard scored the only goal off a corner
kick with just 49 seconds left in the match.
2014 Season Review
Paige Matacchiera
Two games later, UCO enjoyed its big-
gest win of the year in a 6-0 romp over
Washburn. Kate Foran got the scoring
started at the 9:09 mark before Lexi Car-
roll doubled the advantage 24 seconds
later and Emily Hahn bagged a hat trick.
The Bronchos sandwiched a 1-0 away
shutout over Nebraska-Kearney between
two scoreless ties before having the streak
stopped with a 1-0 loss to
Central Missouri.
UCO lost its second
game of the season to
Southwest Baptist on
Oct. 25 before ending
conference play with
back-to-back wins, in-
cluding a 1-0 overtime
victory against North-
eastern State.
That victory gave
the Bronchos the No.
4 seed for the MIAA
Post-season Tournament
and Paige Matacchiera
powered Central to a 5-0
first-round rout over Lindenwood to set up
a showdown with top-seeded Central Mis-
souri. The two teams battled to a scoreless
tie after 90 minutes of regulation play and
two 10-minute overtimes before the Jen-
nies prevailed 4-3 in a shootout.
UCO earned an at-large bid to the
national tournament and made the trip
up to Warrensburg, Mo. for the Central
Regional.
The Bronchos downed Augustana 1-0
in the first round on a Foran goal at the
54:44 mark before the season ended two
days later with the third loss of the season
to UCM, this time 2-0.
Six players were named to the All-
MIAA team and junior defender Quinn
Tookey went on to earn second-team All-
America honors from the National Soccer
Coaches Association of America.

President
Dr.Don Betz
Now in his fifth year as Central Oklahoma’s president
is Dr. Don Betz, who became the school’s 20th president
in August 2011 after having previously served as UCO’s
Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs from
1999-2005.
President Betz developed several initiatives and pro-
grams that helped transform Central into one of the leading
metropolitan universities in the nation during his first stint
at the school and he’s been the driving force in making UCO
a destination of choice in higher education since his return to campus.
President Betz has enjoyed a distinguished career in higher education that spans more
than 40 years, developing a reputation for teaching and encouraging students, leadership
development and diplomacy through his international activities, most notably with the
United Nations and its affiliated non-government organizations.
Prior to returning to UCO, he served as president of Northeastern State, a post he
held for three years. He also served as Chancellor at the University of Wisconsin-River
Falls from 2005 until his appointment at NSU and as Provost and Vice President for
Academic Affairs at Palmer College (Iowa) from 1994-1999.
In the 23 years prior, he fulfilled various capacities at NSU, including theVice President
of University Relations and Professor of Political Science. While at NSU, he also was
the Executive Director of the Educational Foundation,Assistant to the President, Dean of
Continuing Education and Special Programs, Director of the Sequoyah Institute/Center
for Tribal Studies, the founder and advisor of the university’s President’s Leadership
Class and its Model United Nations program.
From 1982 through 2003, President Betz worked for and with the United Nations on
Middle East issues. He founded and chaired the International Coordinating Committee
on the Question of Palestine (ICCP), a UN-affiliated non-governmental organization
(NGO) network pursuing peace in the Middle East based on UN resolutions.
Afrequent writer and speaker, Dr. Betz has addressed international, educational, mo-
tivational topics, and has worked with newspapers, radio and television. His life-long
interest in global issues and his passion for promoting cross-cultural understanding has
led him to more than 80 countries.
While president at NSU, he served as the chair of the Northeast Oklahoma Public

TheMIAA
Central Oklahoma is in its fourth year as a
member of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Ath-
letics Association, perhaps the premier conference
in NCAA Division II.
The MIAA is made up of a 14 institutions in
Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma and
was first organized in 1912 as the Missouri Inter-
collegiate Athletic Association.
Over the past 100-plus years, the MIAA has
gained the reputation of being one of the top
NCAA Division II conferences in the nation.
MIAA schools have won 15 NCAA team cham-
pionships and, since 1964, over 160 individual
national titles.
The MIAA currently con-
ducts championships in eight
sports for men and nine for
women.
For the men, champions
are crowned in football, cross
country, basketball, indoor and
outdoor track & field, baseball,
tennis and golf.
The women compete for ti-
tles in volleyball, cross country,
soccer, basketball, indoor and
outdoor track & field, softball, golf and tennis.
The MIAA turned a new page on July 1, 1992,
when the NCAA Division II conference changed
its name from the Missouri Intercollegiate Athlet-
ic Association to the Mid-America Intercollegiate
Athletics Association.
The decision to make the change originated in
1989, when Pittsburg State and Washburn became
the first schools outside the state of Missouri to
gain membership in the MIAA.
The conference was first organized in 1912
with 14 member institutions. Of those original
members, Central Missouri and Northwest Mis-
souri State still remain a part of the MIAA.
The first change in membership came in 1924,
when the MIAA reorganized to include only the
five regional Missouri state colleges: Central
Missouri, Truman (at the time known as Northeast
Missouri State), Northwest Missouri, Southeast
Missouri State and Southwest Missouri State (now
Missouri State).
Over the next 56 years, three schools joined
the membership: Missouri School of Mines (later
Missouri-Rolla) in 1935, Lincoln in 1970 and the
Missouri-St. Louis in 1980.
Ken Jones became the first full-time commis-
sioner of the MIAA in 1981 and would be in the
position for 16 years, retiring in 1997. Ralph Mc-
Fillen succeeded Jones, serving 10 years before his
retirement in 2007.
Jim Johnson succeeded Mc-
Fillen in July of that year and
served as commissioner until
September of 2010, when Dr.
Bob Boerigter took over.
Southwest Baptist brought
membership back to eight
schools in 1986, before the major
expansion of the conference in
1989. Pittsburg State, Washburn,
Missouri Southern and Missouri
Western began competition in the
1989-90 season.
Southeast Missouri left the MIAA following the
1990-91 season and was replaced by Emporia State
in the 1991-92 season.
Missouri-St. Louis departed the MIAA in 1996,
Missouri-Rolla left in 2005 and Lincoln forfeited
its membership in 1999. Fort Hays State joined the
MIAA in 2006, NebraskaOmaha entered the league
in 2008 and Lincoln re-joined the conference in
2010.
On July 29, 2010, the MIAA CEO Council voted
to extend invitations to UCO and Northeastern State
to become members of the league and on Sept. 24,
2010 it voted to extend invitations to Nebraska-Ke-
arney and Lindenwood.
Nebraska-Omaha left the league in 2011 and
Truman State did the same in 2013, which left 14
schools in the MIAA.
