This document summarizes a study that expanded on previous research to develop statistical models for ultra short-term forecasting of temperature and wind speed using data from 23 weather stations. The models used stepwise regression to select the most powerful predictors at different lead times. Results showed the statistical forecasting system had a small but positive skill score compared to persistence for forecasts up to 30 minutes for both temperature and wind speed, demonstrating the value of past observations for ultra short-term forecasting, though skill dropped off after 30 minutes.
