4. Climatic Measurement System
Today's challenges:
• Climate facility and road measurements grow together
alongside demanding requirements!
• Test procedures in wind tunnel and dynamic road based
testing have to be similar and comparable, results have to be
shared and correlated
• Time to market dictates development time and test time
• The number of channels/signals to be acquired is still
growing
5. Climatic Measurement System
Today's challenges:
Analog sensors information are replaced increasingly by
CAN/LIN bus information
ECU communication is necessary
Single part and component tests are increasingly replaced by
function-unit or sub-system tests
7. Testing Requirements I:
# of analog channels typically above 200
CAN and LIN measurement + ECU communication
system size needs to be adapted to smaller vehicles
automatic measurement initiation, computer
independency …”Black Box Mode”
cost-effective
robust and versatile to extreme environments while
maintaining precision
Extended operating temperature range from -40˚C
to +80˚C (in some cases up to 120˚C)
Road-Based Measurement
8. Testing Requirements II:
simple to setup and control throughout testing
intelligent on-board data reduction and virtual
calculations
flexible, adaptable and modular
compact with a low profile / footprint
operation without PC (through driver display or as
“Black Box”)
real time data transfer during road tests (via WLAN
or WAN communication networks)

13. Road-Based Measurement
The time to transfer remote, road based, measurement data to a data
server, must be capable of efficiently handling the transfer of the data.
imc LINK automatically transfers cold-start or heat soak measurement data
using modern communication hardware in near real time or as desired. It
bridges the gap between the user at the technical center and the data
source on the road.
Problems or areas of considerable interest may be evaluated quickly.
14. Road-Based Measurement
In addition to transferring measured data, imc
LINK can:
• transfer new configurations up to the
measurement system(s)
• display live status information and channel
data values from a measurement device
• Display live GPS position data on graphic
map overlays
Plus, imc LINK works with imc FAMOS to
automatically analyze, process and document
measurement results as data files are received
from the remote transfer.
15. Requirements wind tunnel measurement system I:
# of analog channels typically above 50
cost-effective
compatible to road based dynamic measurements
synchronous measurement between vehicle and wind-
tunnel control system
expandable if required without compatibility problems or
large overhead
Direct access to data base for configuration and data
storage
Facility-Based Measurement
16. Requirements wind tunnel measurement system II:
Simple to configure, user interface for operators
Computer aided, pre-configured display / panels …
Extended temperature range from -40˚C to +80˚C (up to
120˚C)
Distributed measurement system, measurement points at
tunnel and dyno
