He further noted: It is hardly necessary for me to ask that perfect harmony may always prevail in the workings of our association and in all its branches of service. The clash of competition may quicken our energies and excite our ambition to honorable strife in our personal occupations, but here, all must be buried and forgotten, save the one noble aim of this organization: the highest good to the cities of De Pere and West De PereInteresting to note that on 2/14/1887, put a memorial to the legislature on behalf of the Business Men’s Association of De Pere and West De Pere, earnestly requesting that body to pass a bill changing the name of Nicolet to West De Pere -- also to Washington to change the name of the Post Office as well.
E.H. Krueger of Milwaukee, secretary of the Wisconsin Chambers of Commerce who said:We are climbing out of the depression and are making both ends meet. The outlook is that business will be 10-20% better in 1936. There has been lots of wondering at the purpose of a Chamber of Commerce. Being close to Green Bay, you are interested in keeping your own trade at home. But it is a condition that is hard to overcome. While De Pere people go to Green Bay, Green Bay people go to Milwaukee, and Milwaukeeans go to Chicago to trade. What can a Chamber of Commerce do for my business? What can a Chamber of Commerce do for the community? The adoption of a project plan for the community. Projects can be put in the hands of a committee who can see the businessmen and sell them the idea of accepting some activity. The program you adopt is what counts and is of most importance. He end by complimenting the city for its beauty. “It is laid out so nicely; has a fine history, excellent educational and religious institutions, and large industries. You have great opportunities here.”“Get together and work together.”
