Academic Parent-Teacher Teams: Family Engagement as an Instructional Strategy...CPEDInitiative
This document describes Academic Parent-Teacher Teams (APTT), an intervention to improve family engagement and student academic outcomes. APTT involves three team meetings and one individual session per year where teachers share student data and demonstrate learning activities for parents to practice at home. A pilot of APTT in nine Phoenix schools saw first grade reading fluency increase from an average of 17 words per minute to 46, nearing the end of year standard of 62. Both quantitative and qualitative findings showed increased parent-teacher communication and engagement, as well as improved student achievement. The implications are that teachers can effectively lead family involvement efforts and incorporate it as a core instructional strategy.
A rigid body is a solid object that does not deform under external forces. It can undergo three modes of motion: translation, rotation, and oscillation. Rolling motion involves both translation and rotation, where the point of contact does not slip. Kinetic energy and momentum formulas are derived for rotational and translational motion by defining angular quantities like angular velocity, acceleration, and momentum that are analogous to their linear counterparts. The moment of inertia, radius of gyration, and parallel axis theorem are used to calculate rotational inertia for objects with different shapes. Angular momentum is conserved in isolated systems and explains gyroscopic motion where a torque arises from the cross product of angular velocity and momentum.

This document discusses translational research and how it can be applied in education. Translational research aims to bridge the gap between research and practice. It includes action steps, forms partnerships with communities, and generates co-authored interventions. The training of translational researchers involves problem-based and transdisciplinary work with mentoring. Scholarly practitioners are seen as potential translational researchers as they blend practical wisdom with professional skills to solve problems of practice and disseminate their work collaboratively. Breakout groups at the event discussed how to encourage scholarly practitioners to adopt problem-finding orientations, become better reflective thinkers, and work on transdisciplinary teams across institutions.
The document summarizes research from a FIPSE grant that studied changes to EdD programs influenced by the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate (CPED). Data was collected through 21 case studies and 3 surveys of students, faculty, and researchers. Key findings include:
1. Schools adopted CPED principles and design features to create innovative EdD programs with changed learning processes, environments, and engagement.
2. Students reported learning to apply theory to practice and collaborate, and pursued EdDs for career advancement.
3. Faculty implemented changes but faced challenges from workload shifts and tensions with clinical faculty.

This document outlines a framework for recognizing quality in professional doctorate programs in education that adhere to the principles of the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate (CPED). It discusses the objectives of recognition, which are to articulate the nature and function of the EdD, demonstrate effectiveness through adherence to CPED design concepts and principles, and provide a framework for continuous improvement. The framework is intended to distinguish programs at different phases of development and encourage participation in CPED initiatives, but is not meant to be accreditation or overly rigid. Benefits of recognition include demonstrating quality internally and externally, enhancing marketing and grant opportunities, and improved collaboration. The document discusses developing criteria to fully implement the framework through drafting, feedback, and piloting.

Dr. Silim Nahdy welcomed participants to the Eastern Africa Agricultural Extension and Advisory Services Policy Dialogue hosted by AFAAS. AFAAS has partnerships with organizations in Uganda to develop ethics standards for agricultural extension and advisory services and to review development strategies. AFAAS signed an MOU with the African Union Commission in 2013.
AFAAS's vision is for agricultural advisory services that effectively contribute to sustained productivity and poverty reduction in Africa. Its mission is to promote knowledge sharing and professional interaction to add value to agricultural advisory initiatives across the continent. AFAAS focuses on knowledge management, strengthening national networks, partnerships to scale innovations, capacity building, policy advocacy, and conducting strategic studies.
Gender Responsive RAS AFAAS - FARA Scoping Studies 2015- AFAAS
This document summarizes the key findings from gender scoping studies conducted in 7 African countries on improving gender responsiveness in rural advisory services. The main points are:
1) Smallholder agriculture in sub-Saharan Africa is traditionally practiced and organized along gendered lines, with women responsible for nutrition and food security and men for income generation.
2) For rural advisory services to effectively address gender inequalities, they must become gender responsive and transform social norms.
3) A proposed roadmap includes operationalizing existing gender policies, building understanding of gender equality, promoting gender-sensitive technologies, empowering women's groups, and transforming unequal gender dynamics in smallholder agriculture.
This document describes a Research Experience for Teachers (RET) program run by the Center for Latin American & Caribbean Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The program sends K-12 teachers from Milwaukee Public Schools to Panama for 3-4 weeks over the summer to study tropical ecology and participate in scientific research. The goal is to bring this experience back to the classroom to develop curriculum on tropical ecology. Teachers collaborate with scientists and have access to resources to create classroom materials like activities, photos, videos and blogs. The program aims to support educators teaching underrepresented student populations and expand STEM programming.
The ad copy should capture potential clients' attention and encourage them to buy products or services. It must clearly and concisely state the objectives and what readers will find, using words to persuade alongside images. Taking professional help can write words that touch prospects, as clients see many competitors' ads. The most important part of marketing is the message reaches those most likely to purchase.
Blended learning: A more effective model for haul truck operator trainingVISTA Training
Too often, haul truck operator trainees don't retain enough of the knowledge they learn during training. That can lead to longer on-boarding cycles, lower productivity and potential safety problems in the mine.
Blended learning - providing training via multiple modalities using a highly structured, building-block approach - shows a lot of promise in addressing this challenge.
Last week, VISTA Training presented a new technical paper on this subject at the 2013 Haulage & Loading Conference in Phoenix, Arizona, which is operated by Mining Media (publisher of Engineering & Mining Journal and Coal Age magazines). During this presentation, VISTA marketing manager Chuck Frey covered:
- The training challenges many mines face today
- How inadequate training tends to lead to operational challenges
- The unique needs of adult learners
- An overview of blended learning
- How "knowledge chunks" and "building blocks" improve learning
- A deeper analysis of the impact of blended learning at Suncor Energy
- The next frontier of blended learning
- Advice for implementing blended learning in your mine

This document summarizes oscillatory motion and simple harmonic motion. It describes how oscillatory motion involves periodic movement like that of a mass-spring system without friction. The motion of such a system can be modeled using Newton's second law, resulting in a differential equation of the form d2x/dt2 = -kx, where k is a constant. This has the form of a simple harmonic motion equation. Other examples of simple harmonic motion discussed include angular simple harmonic motion using a simple pendulum, as well as damped simple harmonic motion where a frictional force is present. Key characteristics of simple harmonic motion like amplitude, angular velocity, phase constant, and the sinusoidal nature of the position, velocity and acceleration functions are also
URBED has pioneered sustainable urban regeneration since 1976, developing approaches like community-based planning. Their 1994 design guide for Hulme established principles later adopted citywide in Manchester. In 2002, their sustainable neighborhood design for Brighton included Britain's first zero carbon homes. More recently, their strategies have supported urban renaissance in towns like Bury and frameworks like Nottingham's promote the concept.
This document summarizes the African Forum for Agricultural Advisory Services' (AFAAS) progress and challenges regarding financial accountability. It discusses AFAAS having an approved financial manual to guide operations. It also describes internal controls like monthly expense tracking and authorization of funds. However, it notes challenges such as delayed accountability submissions and failure to acknowledge received funds. It concludes timely accountability ensures compliance, controls, and helps AFAAS achieve its mission.
