Upon This Rock 20 Universal vs Local Church
This document discusses the doctrine of the universal church versus the local church. It traces the doctrine of a universal church back to Catholicism and explains that most Protestant-descended churches hold to central Protestant doctrines. The Bible teaches of a "called-out assembly" or local, visible church in all but three of the 119 times the word "church" appears. Why worship on sunday
1) Sunday became the primary day of worship for Christians because it was the day Jesus rose from the dead. The resurrection proved Jesus' deity and authenticated his teachings.
2) Acts 20:7 shows that the early church gathered for communion and preaching on Sundays. Sunday was also the day Christians brought offerings to the church.
3) Sunday commemorates deliverance from the law. Christians are saved by grace through faith, not works, so Sunday celebrates being freed from Sabbath requirements and obligations to the law. While private worship can occur daily, Sunday provides an appropriate day for public worship.

Jesus' disciples deserted him after he delivered a difficult discourse about eating his flesh and drinking his blood. Some of his disciples no longer followed him after this time. In response, Jesus asked the twelve disciples if they also planned to leave. Peter affirmed that they would not leave Jesus because he had the words of eternal life, and there was no one else they could go to for salvation and spiritual fulfillment. While some disciples abandoned Jesus, Peter and others committed to continuing as his followers.

The quote for this option resonated with me quite a bit. It opened my eyes reading this option as in my opinion, believing in the resurrection of Jesus Christ is a fundamental belief of all of Christianity. I do not think that someone can claim to be a Christian and yet deny that Christ was resurrected on the third day after his crucifixion. In the Bible this is illustrated quite clearly: "if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved" (Romans 10:9) Obviously scripture makes this pretty cut and dry, but something that really stuck out to me was not from the Bible, but rather our assigned reading this week. From the Resurrection and Ascension section, "there must be some historical truth in the claims of Jesus’ Resurrection, for no one trying to build a case would have rested it on the testimony of women, who had little status in a patriarchal society.” (Fisher, pg. 320) this opened my eyes a bit because I never thought of it in this sense. Of course women did not have the equal social and economic status back then as they do today in the majority of the world, so the fact that the two Marys were the first people to witness Jesus after death really lends credit to the truthfulness of the Bible. Further, I would argue that the most fundamental belief of Christianity is that Christ died to forgive the sins of all of humanity, and resurrected to rule alongside his Father in Heaven. The belief in Christ's resurrection is necessary in order to subscribe to the entire narrative of Christ being the savior and messiah of all of humanity. Without Christ's resurrection he simply becomes a martyr, or perhaps a false prophet to many people. It is his "otherworldly" resurrection that signifies his status as the savior of mankind.

This week I chose option A which states "the whole Christian Church stands or falls based upon the historical resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead." This seems to be a great debate, and I thought it'd be interesting to research. After review it seems the loyal believers of the resurrection have a few facts that they abide by. Below are those facts.
1. The Empty Tomb
2. The Burial
3. The Guard
4. The Disciples
5. The post resurrection appearance
6. The enemies of Christ gave no refutation of the resurrection
To the believers these are the undeniable facts that they go by to support that the resurrection took place. Now i will lay out the facts that the doubters go by.
1. There is no external historical confirmation of the New Testament stories
2. The New Testament stories are internally contradictory.
3. There are natural explanations for the origins of the Jesus legend

This is a study of Jesus being preached and Paul rejoicing. Many were preaching Jesus with false motives, but Paul rejoiced anyway because Christ was being preached. He was happy even if others were false preachers, for Jesus was being made known.

This compromise distorts the faith, undermines the position of true converts, and deprives Muslim converts to Christianity of the truths they need to experience the power of the truly committed Christian life.

- 4. I. THE BAPTISM CONTROVERSY C. Baptist refusal to accept the Baptism of the Roman Catholic church and later of the Protestant churches Resulted in the hatred of those churches against the Baptists and the most severe persecution.
- 5. II. THE INFLUENCE BAPTISM A. It is obvious that between John the Baptist and Jesus a lot of people were baptized.

Most of those who were baptized turned from Christ • I am going to baptize those who make a profession of faith in Jesus Christ • I am going to instruct them that baptism is a promise to live as Christ would have us to live but • I am not going to demand that a person live up to all of my expectations before I baptize them.

- 8. III. THE PRIVILEGE BAPTISM A.Some suggested reasons for that 1. He was busy preaching and left the lesser task of baptism to the disciples 2. It would seem strange to baptize in the name of the Father, and in the name of myself, and in the name of the Holy Ghost 3. Can you imagine the envy and worse, the pride of those who could claim their baptism was from Christ himself? That person would be worshiped as much (or more) than Christ.
