THE CITY OF TOMORROW
Underwater City
Although seeming like something out of science fiction, an underwater city is very
much possible in the near future. A few aspects to prove this include the fact that there
is getting lesser and lesser space on land for the construction of recreational areas,
homes, and etc. This will force engineers and architects to consider the possibilities of
building underwater. As a fact, there are already a few groups of aquanauts living in
underwater facilities off the coast of the Florida Keys. Being used for a variety of
purposes like The Jules’ Undersea Lodge used for weddings and
other special events, the Marine Lab used by the United
States & NAVY Scientists, and the Aquarius Reface
used by the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration).
There are also plans to build an underwater hotel in Poland and the Maldives along
with similar projects in development in Dubai, Singapore, and Norway. There are rumors
of technology that exists to make underwater bunkers for up to 100 people, but
because of water pressure, living more than 1,000 meters under water could be
dangerous.
The GARDEN CITY CONCEPT by
Sir Ebenezer Howard
The Garden City Concept stands for a more harmonious combination of city and country,
dwelling house and garden. A less overcrowded city and country combination, a
dwelling house (an apartment or building, or a group of buildings that is occupied by a
family as a place of residence) and garden. It was first introduced in the year 1912. The
Garden City Concept originally called The Garden City movement. First created and
introduced by Sir Ebenezer Howard in 1898 by the title of ‘To-Morrow: A Peaceful Path
to Real Reform' and much later reissued by Sir Raymond Unwin in 1902 as ‘Garden Cities
of To-morrow’.
The Town Country Magnet
In unison with the Garden City Concept, the Town Country Magnet is a concept that is
proposed by Sir Ebenezer Howard in his suggestions for a Garden City Concept where
the reader is asked to imagine an estate embracing an area of 6,000 acres, which is at
that time purely agricultural, and has been obtained by purchase in the open market at
a cost of £40 an acre, or £240,000 now. The purchase money is supposed to have been
raised on mortgage debentures, bearing interest at an average rate not exceeding 4 per
cent. The estate is legally vested in the names of four gentlemen of responsible position
and of undoubted probity and honor, who hold it in trust, first, as a security for the
debenture-holders, and, secondly, in trust for the people of Garden City, the Town-
country magnet, which it is intended to build thereon. One essential feature of the plan
is that all ground rents, which are to be based upon the annual value of the land, shall
be paid to the trustees, who, after providing for interest and sinking fund, will hand the
balance to the Central Council of the new municipality,' to be employed by such Council
in the creation and maintenance of all necessary public work--roads, schools, parks, etc.
Group of Slumless Smokeless Cities
In full view of the whole concept, the Group of Slumless Smokeless Cities is the main
plan and the full layout of the proposed Garden City Concept. Picturing a total area of
66,000 acres for a population of 250,000, and the Garden City being 9,000 acres with a
population of 32,000. Lastly the Central City area which is 12,000 acres, with a
population of 58,000 people.
This concept can be proven affective at some points if it were to ever be implemented
into a city of the future. There seems to be no actual proof or signs that the Garden City
Concept will not be operational if it were one day to be implemented on a future city.
A Better Future
For a better future, a human being must be in perfect harmony with their
surroundings. Be it their own personal human counterparts, the house that they live in
and the type of surroundings that they have around them, i.e; the city or town that they
live in.
In other words, a town
that we the people
will live in, in the
future. A better future
town for our living
pleasures that we can
live in in perfect
harmony and that can
be preserved even
until we are not on
this Earth anymore.
For future generations
to come to enjoy the
remainder of their
lives. A beautiful but
also at the same time
sustainable town.
It will not only be sustainable and eco-friendly, it will also be livelihood friendly, and
hopefully also pocket-friendly. I future city like this must have its own guidelines to
thrive and prosper. City guidelines that will make any person be in awe, and be
fascinated just by reading through the concepts of its guidelines.
GUIDELINES
A better future city consists of many things. A few of which are;
BEAUTY
SUSTAINABILITY & ECO-FRIENDLY
LIVELIHOOD FRIENDLY
COST EFFICIENT
My Beautiful KUCHING City
To give a proper overview of my city, Kuching is a laid back and vibrant city filled with
different cultural festivities, international events, and well-known parties attended by
local icons and international icons alike.
Kuching is a small city that only has an area of 431 km2. It will take about 1 hour and 40
minutes from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA 2) to reach my hometown
of Kuching which is 2,729 km away. Last updated in the year of 2010, the population of
Kuching has a steady number of 134,317 citizens. The density of the population is great
compared to its domestic counterparts like Kuala Lumpur with an area of 431 km2 to
134,317 people.

  • 2. THE CITY OF TOMORROW Underwater City Although seeming like something out of science fiction, an underwater city is very much possible in the near future. A few aspects to prove this include the fact that there is getting lesser and lesser space on land for the construction of recreational areas, homes, and etc. This will force engineers and architects to consider the possibilities of building underwater. As a fact, there are already a few groups of aquanauts living in underwater facilities off the coast of the Florida Keys. Being used for a variety of purposes like The Jules’ Undersea Lodge used for weddings and other special events, the Marine Lab used by the United States & NAVY Scientists, and the Aquarius Reface used by the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration). There are also plans to build an underwater hotel in Poland and the Maldives along with similar projects in development in Dubai, Singapore, and Norway. There are rumors of technology that exists to make underwater bunkers for up to 100 people, but because of water pressure, living more than 1,000 meters under water could be dangerous.
  • 3. The GARDEN CITY CONCEPT by Sir Ebenezer Howard The Garden City Concept stands for a more harmonious combination of city and country, dwelling house and garden. A less overcrowded city and country combination, a dwelling house (an apartment or building, or a group of buildings that is occupied by a family as a place of residence) and garden. It was first introduced in the year 1912. The Garden City Concept originally called The Garden City movement. First created and introduced by Sir Ebenezer Howard in 1898 by the title of ‘To-Morrow: A Peaceful Path to Real Reform' and much later reissued by Sir Raymond Unwin in 1902 as ‘Garden Cities of To-morrow’.
  • 4. The Town Country Magnet In unison with the Garden City Concept, the Town Country Magnet is a concept that is proposed by Sir Ebenezer Howard in his suggestions for a Garden City Concept where the reader is asked to imagine an estate embracing an area of 6,000 acres, which is at that time purely agricultural, and has been obtained by purchase in the open market at a cost of £40 an acre, or £240,000 now. The purchase money is supposed to have been raised on mortgage debentures, bearing interest at an average rate not exceeding 4 per cent. The estate is legally vested in the names of four gentlemen of responsible position and of undoubted probity and honor, who hold it in trust, first, as a security for the debenture-holders, and, secondly, in trust for the people of Garden City, the Town- country magnet, which it is intended to build thereon. One essential feature of the plan is that all ground rents, which are to be based upon the annual value of the land, shall be paid to the trustees, who, after providing for interest and sinking fund, will hand the balance to the Central Council of the new municipality,' to be employed by such Council in the creation and maintenance of all necessary public work--roads, schools, parks, etc.
  • 5. Group of Slumless Smokeless Cities In full view of the whole concept, the Group of Slumless Smokeless Cities is the main plan and the full layout of the proposed Garden City Concept. Picturing a total area of 66,000 acres for a population of 250,000, and the Garden City being 9,000 acres with a population of 32,000. Lastly the Central City area which is 12,000 acres, with a population of 58,000 people. This concept can be proven affective at some points if it were to ever be implemented into a city of the future. There seems to be no actual proof or signs that the Garden City Concept will not be operational if it were one day to be implemented on a future city.
  • 6. A Better Future For a better future, a human being must be in perfect harmony with their surroundings. Be it their own personal human counterparts, the house that they live in and the type of surroundings that they have around them, i.e; the city or town that they live in. In other words, a town that we the people will live in, in the future. A better future town for our living pleasures that we can live in in perfect harmony and that can be preserved even until we are not on this Earth anymore. For future generations to come to enjoy the remainder of their lives. A beautiful but also at the same time sustainable town. It will not only be sustainable and eco-friendly, it will also be livelihood friendly, and hopefully also pocket-friendly. I future city like this must have its own guidelines to thrive and prosper. City guidelines that will make any person be in awe, and be fascinated just by reading through the concepts of its guidelines.
  • 7. GUIDELINES A better future city consists of many things. A few of which are; BEAUTY SUSTAINABILITY & ECO-FRIENDLY LIVELIHOOD FRIENDLY COST EFFICIENT
