This document discusses proposals to reduce the time and cost of delivering 20 mph speed limit schemes. It suggests relaxing sign illumination requirements and removing the need for terminal signs on both sides of the road or repeater signs to be accompanied by upright signs. It provides estimates of average costs for traffic calming measures like speed humps and signs. For one example scheme, it calculates that the total cost would be £36,200, including £16,000 for 8 speed humps, £9,600 for illuminated signs, and £8,000 for 5 years of energy and maintenance costs. It concludes by posing questions.
