The author recounts his experience with his first solo diaper change of his 12-week-old son. He was nervous to be left alone with his son for the first time but his wife insisted on taking time for herself. When his son's crying indicated a dirty diaper, the author reluctantly changed the diaper. Though intimidated by the mess and smell, he was able to successfully clean his son and apply a fresh diaper. The author realized that diving in was the best way to gain experience with new baby tasks.
