3. Unit 1 People
Sample Answer to PART 1
1. Do you like meeting new people?
Well, I’m an introvert and I'm not interested in talking to someone I don’t know. I prefer
just hanging out with people I know. But since most of my friends are extroverts, they
constantly want me to meet new people and I find that a little bit exhausting.
2. How do you feel when people welcome you?
If others welcome me, I will be very happy. I love hanging out with my friends, but I’m
not very active in making new friends. I only take the initiative when I feel welcome. So,
when I feel welcome, I will fit into a new environment more quickly.
3. Will you love someone who you have met for the first time?
No, I can’t genuinely like someone whom I’m just meeting for the first time. To me,
liking someone at first sight is not real. In my opinion, the feeling of liking someone will
be based on their character traits and attitude. It’s impossible to get to know an
individual’s true character when meeting them for the first time.

Sample Answer to PART 2
I’m going to talk about a generous person who is admired for his sincere efforts to help people
from all walks of life. He is my neighbor Dr. Ren, a physician. I have known him since I was a
child.
Dr. Ren is in his 50s and he runs a clinic in the city. He used to work in a big hospital for more
than twenty years. To help patients in remote areas who can’t afford medical treatment, he
quit his job at the big hospital and opened a small clinic. Apart from treating patients in his
clinic, he has regularly organized health camps in remote villages in my hometown. His team
distributed free medicines to patients and gave valuable free lectures to communities about
how to lead a disease-free life. This has been a great help to village dwellers as medical
facilities in these places were very poor. He has changed the lives of thousands of villagers in
my hometown.
His determination to improve the public health in rural regions is praiseworthy. In fact, he is a
role model for me. Since we are neighbors, we know about each other’s work. I often
accompany him as a volunteer in his health camps. Of course, if I get sick, he’s the first person
I call. 仅供外教网1对1用户使用+6912

7. Unit 1 People
Sample Answer to PART 3
1. Why are some people willing to help others?
I think it is because that helping others can boost our sense of happiness. Looking for ways to help others
doesn’t just have a positive impact on the people you are helping, it’s good for everyone. To know that
your work means so much to someone else will make you understand the value that comes from helping
other people.
2. Do people nowadays help others more than in the past?
Yes, I think so. In the past, many people would only help those around them when these people needed
help, such as lending money to relatives and friends. Many people wouldn’t do charity voluntarily.
Recently, as people get more and more information online, they begin to realize that there are many
strangers who need more help. For example, some children who are seriously ill and their parents can’t
afford all the medical expenses, so the parents will launch a crowdfunding online. Many people will
donate when they see such a message.
3. In what kinds of professions do people help others more?
I think helping people is a fundamental aspect of many fields, including health care, protective service,
education, law and human service. For instance, surgeons and emergency physicians save lives almost
every day. Police officers maintain order and ensure public safety. Lawyers advocate for their clients’
legal rights and protections, etc.
