Thank you for reading the Washington Street Journal. This was an
extraordinary year for both students and staff, and the Washington Street
Journal is particularly appreciative of everyone who helped make this year's
LAB program possible. We hope you have enjoyed the e-newsletter updates
from LAB Week and that you stay connected!

EXPLORING ENTREPRENEURSHIP
The students went out with a bang during their last 24 hours of
LAB. After last night's post-negotiation pizza party, LABbers still
loyally reported to Donald Wayne McLeod's optional 7 a.m.
session for a culminating lesson on networking, presentation, and
sustaining growth.

Students then traveled to downtown Willoughby to learn about
the community's entrepreneurial "renaissance" and to tour
several small businesses in the neighborhood.

Later on, our LAB class split into their teams and discussed their
marketplace reception, internal company perceptions,
management communication styles, and other important aspects
to consider when reflecting on the effectiveness of a business.

LABbers also received presentations from business expert Dale
Stefancic, local entrepreneurs Scott Sofer and Karen Bowersox;
each shared their experiences with business start-ups. At the
end of their presentation Scott Sofer presented Executive
Director of LAB, Kirk Stonebrook, a generous donation from his
organization (pictured above).
Another donor, Kevin Lynch, Director of External Affairs at AT&T
visited LAB today. He introduced himself to the students and
expressed to them how important it is to be alert and aware of
your decisions (pictured below). LAB would not exist without the
generosity of people like Scott Sofer and Kevin Lynch.

AND THE WINNERS ARE...
The day concluded with an award ceremony attended by students'
family and friends in celebration of their graduation from the LAB
program. Students Deeya Rodrigues and Chris Uhran spoke on
behalf of the class, sharing highlights of the week.
Certificates of award were given to all students. Certificates were
also given to the following teams of students:
• Forward Automotive for Best Company Advertisement
• Plasmatic Motors for Best Team Negotiation
• Zion for Most Improved Team
• Viaggio Automotive for Winning Team of Simulation

and positive energy. You made it!

At the dessert reception, students hugged, took selfies, and
reminisced on their LAB experience, which to some felt more like
6 weeks than 6 days, but was still over too soon.
As students return home, the Washington Street Journal would
like to wish the LAB Class of 2017 a weekend of rest and
reflection, and a bright future in which they effectively apply the
many skills they have learned this week.
The LAB Class of 2017 was an outstanding group, and we look
forward to seeing what they accomplish in the future, as well as
to seeing what the next LAB class has in store!
