Development is a multi-faceted challenge. It differs between households, enterprises, sectors, regions
and countries. Not one solution can work in all contexts. It is therefore imperative that the research
methodology is adapted to the context in which it is to be applied. Our clients trust us because we take an
innovative and creative approach to problem solving. We conduct research on markets, value chains,
enterprise performance, livelihood and food security issues, women inclusion and empowerment,
environmental sustainability and regulatory environment to support development partners identify the
challenges and design solutions that can deliver targeted results in the specific context.
Baseline study: Innovision has extensive experience in baseline study design and implementation.
Baseline surveys are an important part of monitoring and evaluation of projects. A baseline study is
done at the beginning of a project to establish the current status of a population before a project is
rolled out. Innovision has hands on experience in designing quasi-experimental method for selection
of treatment and control group for the baseline study.
Impact assessment: Accountability and credibility of development projects depend on their impacts.
We support development projects to analyze, document and communicate their impacts. Attribution is
key to proving credible results. Our team has years of experience in designing and conducting impact
surveys in agricultural and industrial markets and value chains.
Market research: We analyze markets and market systems to determine underlying constraints or
market problems that restrict economically challenged households on participating in the markets. We
have expertise market research and market systems analysis in agricultural, industrial, health and
other basic services markets.
Value chain analysis: Value chain analysis can help development projects that target income and

T
7. We apply innovative mechanisms to make
markets and businesses more accessible to
the poor. Over the years, we have supported
agri-input companies to reach out to farmers
with better quality inputs and information on
the use of inputs, facilitated linkages between
farmers and lead firms for increased access to
quality farm products for better price,
supported companies to establish contract
farming systems, supported businesses to
reach out to farmers in remote areas like the
chars.
We have also worked to strengthen the
capacity of business membership
organizations in industrial sectors to provide
better services to their members, facilitated
linkages between public and private
organizations for research and skill
development and supported innovations on
training service provisions that reach out to
female labors and the youth.
ROJECT MANAGEMENT
We implement development projects and intervene
in selected markets and sectors to make markets
and businesses inclusive for the poor. Interventions
are customized based on sectors, markets and
development challenges and opportunities but
frequently fall under the category of:
Innovating distribution systems for increasing
rural access to inputs (for farmers) and
commodities (for consumers);
Improving linkages in value chains to improve
enterprise performance and to increase
participation of the poor in economic activities;
Making quality raw materials available and
affordable for the poor farmers;
Facilitating institutional linkages for product
innovation;
Supporting communities and business
associations to increase their social capital,
creating sustainable markets for health services
and commodities;
Improving information dissemination systems
and networks;
Innovation on marketing and market promotion,
supply chain development etc.
Our engagement in the field helps us to understand the real life challenges in project implementation. We
use this learning to improve approach and methodology on research and technical assistance. We have
managed projects for Katalyst (Fish, Fertilizer, ICT, and Furniture) and are currently managing projects for
Swisscontact Bangladesh (Making Markets Work for Jamuna, Padma and Teesta Chars (M4C)) &
Montrose Africa (Technical Backstopping on M4P for the Support to National Malaria Programin Nigeria
(SuNMaP)). Recently Innovision has signed contracts for three new projects as a sub-facilitator with
Swisscontact/ Agri-Business Trade Competitiveness Project (ATC-P) Bangladesh; branded as Katalyst.
These projects are:
Fisheries Input and Services Project (FINS)
Market Development for Fertilizer Project (MDF) and
Market Development through ICT Initiatives (MDII)
SECTION C: EXPERTISE
ARKETS FOR POOR (M4P)
Over the last two decades, we have observed a gradual shift of development priority from hand outs and
charities to scalable and sustainable results. The focus is now on solutions that can benefit larger number
of people and enterprises and can continue to do so well beyond the development project’s timeframe
and territorial coverage. Markets for Poor or M4P in this context is being increasingly adopted as an
approach by development project’s and practitioners to deliver large scale, systemic and sustainable
results for income and employment generation and wellbeing of the people living under the poverty line.
Innovision is one of the global leaders on the application of M4P in agriculture, industries, and health
markets. Our founders have been involved on the evolution of M4P as a practice area over the last one
decade and are contributors to the global community for sharing evidences of impact of M4P projects.

8. ALUE CHAIN DEVELOPMENT (VCD)
A potato farmer who currently caters to the local market could probably earn more if she was able to
produce and sell potatoes demanded in the international market or by processing companies producing
value added potato products like chips. Handicrafts that are produced by ethnic communities might fetch
better price for the artisans if these were marketed to national or international customers willing to pay a
premium for products bearing true ethnic identities. Market failures restrict the poor farmers, artisans and
enterprises to cater to such opportunities that could sustainably change their livelihood; create
opportunities for employment and income generation in their communities. Value chain development
evolved as a practice area to address such market failures. While the fine line between M4P and value
chain development are often debated, our simultaneous engagement on both practice areas helped us
gain unique expertise to blend the two practice areas to identify development challenges and design
solutions that can deliver scalable and sustainable results in agriculture, industries and health markets.
NCLUSIVE BUSINESS
Inclusive businesses aim to include the poor enterprises within their value chains. Inclusive businesses
also aim to develop products and services that can reach the consumers at the bottom of the pyramid.
We are working with large-scale business corporations in agriculture, industries, and health markets to
help them develop solutions that can reach the poor. It should be noted that M4P and VCD are
approaches to develop inclusive businesses. However, the scope of M4P and VCD projects go beyond
supporting one or two selected companies to solving wider systemic challenges in the markets and in the
value chains. Often development funds are channeled to support large corporations in selected priority
markets to become inclusive rather than solving the development puzzle of the entire market. We use our
experience and expertise gained from consulting and managing M4P and VCD projects to support
businesses become more inclusive.
OCAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT (LED)
Local Economic Development (LED) is an approach to transform a community, territory or a region from
impoverishment to economic growth. LED incorporates value chain development within the selected
territory or region but goes beyond to include community development, social capital, infrastructure
development and green development for ecological sustainability. We are working with global
practitioners on the application of LED as a tool for economic development.
IVELIHOOD AND FOOD SECURITY
Households living well below the poverty line often cannot participate in economic activities because of
lack of resources, skills, knowledge, and micro finance. Asset transfer programmes are designed to
support such households graduate to a level from which they can continue to sustain their income from
economic activities. We developed our own methodology for designing asset transfer programmes that
can support development partners deliver better results more effectively.
HALLENGE FUND
Challenge Fund programmes are designed and managed to support enterprises invest on innovation for
inclusive development. Lack of control on the management and operations of the grantees, loss of
technical oversight and weak designs can make management of challenge fund programmes a challenge
by itself. We are working with our network of consulting and development partners to design challenge
fund programmes to deliver better results.

9. SECTION D: SECTORS
Agriculture
With shrinking agricultural land and increasing pressure to ensure food security, developing countries
are increasingly focusing on improving agricultural productivity while ensuring sustainability of
production. Processing for value added agricultural products have also become a major strategy on
creating employment and increasing income for the farm households. Development projects thus need
the right analytics to design and implement interventions that can contribute to sustainable growth of
agricultural productivity and create opportunities for value addition and diversification.
Since our launch, we have served development partners in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Sri
Lanka, and Yemen to analyse agricultural markets and value chains, design, and manage
interventions that can stimulate growth in agricultural markets. Our portfolio of subsectors and value
chains is expanding with each assignment. Till date we have supported development projects
intervening in fisheries (prawn, shrimp, tilapia, thai koi, white fish), high value crops (banana, chilli,
floriculture, ground nut, maize, mustard, onion, potato, pineapple, rice, turmeric, wheat), poultry and
livestock (beef fattening, dairy) subsectors and value chains.
Industries
Industrial subsectors are driving growth in emerging markets. Bangladesh like many other developing
countries and emerging economies in the world, have observed rapid growth in industrial subsectors.
Ready Made Garments (RMG), furniture, plastics, light engineering, electrical and electronics
industries are thriving. Development partners are increasingly focusing on these subsectors as a
means to create employment for skilled workers.
We have extensive experience on research, project management and evaluation on value added
industrial products (furniture, jute diversified products, leather goods, plastics), food
processing, renewable energy and waste recycling subsectors. We have served clients to design and
manage interventions in industrial subsectors in Bangladesh, Yemen, and Nigeria. We are also
working on service industries that include financial markets and technical and vocation education and
training.
Health
Innovision is supporting development partners to design and manage interventions on malaria control,
maternal new-borns and child health (MNCH), management of chronic diseases, sexual reproductive
health and rights (SRHR). While health care continues and will continue to be driven by public health
interventions, there is an increasing interest on supporting the private sector to establish viable models
that could meet the health care needs of the people living under the poverty line.
Affordability, accessibility, and awareness are keys to sustaining such models. We are supporting
malaria control programmes to develop viable models for distribution of preventive and curative
products through commercial channels. We were one of the key technical partners on the design of a
health innovation challenge fund programme.
