Change Means Opportunity - Key Domain Trends for Hosters in 2012opensrs
This document discusses how the introduction of new generic top-level domains (gTLDs) in 2013 will revolutionize the domain industry. It notes that over 250 entities have already applied for new gTLDs, with hundreds or even thousands expected to be approved. This expansion will give brands, communities and others "the right of the dot" by allowing them to use their name or term as a top-level extension. While this variety may initially cause confusion, it will also give users and customers more options to find the domain name that best fits their needs. The document advises domain resellers and hosters to educate customers on the changes, explore new sales opportunities in niche or geographic TLDs, and
The document discusses how brand owners should prepare for the introduction of new generic top-level domains (gTLDs) by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). It notes that while the goal is to enhance choice and innovation, the large number of new gTLDs will also multiply threats to intellectual property rights holders and increase the risk of consumer confusion. The document provides an overview of trademark protection mechanisms and considerations for brand owners in deciding whether to apply for their own branded gTLD (dot-brand) in this changing domain name landscape.

The New gTLD Opportunity - Sandeep Ramchandani, Director, RadixResellerClub
The document discusses the new gTLD program and its significance. It notes that over 70% of internet users are crammed into the .com domain, and new gTLDs will expand address availability. It outlines some major applicants, including Google, Amazon, Donuts, and Radix Registry. Radix has applied for 31 gTLDs, the largest registrar applicant portfolio. The document argues the program will dramatically change the domain industry and shift power to registrars. It positions Directi and Radix Registry to take advantage of these changes.

IOT Paris Seminar 2015 - Storage Challenges in IOTMongoDB
Joe Drumgoole gave a presentation on the Internet of Things storage challenges. The number of sensors deployed is rapidly increasing from billions to trillions. These sensors generate massive amounts of real-time data that needs to be stored, filtered, and distributed. Relational databases are not well-suited for this type of unstructured IoT data. MongoDB is presented as a solution because it offers dynamic schemas, automatic scaling, text search, and other features that address the demands of storing and analyzing massive amounts of real-time IoT data.

MongoDB IoT City Tour STUTTGART: Why your Dad's database won't work for IoT. ...MongoDB
Presented by, Joe Drumgoole, Director of Solutions Architecture EMEA, MongoDB.
IoT is the next big paradigm shift in computing. The move to super-dense sensor networks creates a completely new set of opportunities and challenges for developers, designers and end-users. In this context we need a new kind of storage medium.
MongoDB IoT City Tour LONDON: Why your Dad's database won't work for IoT. Joe...MongoDB
This document discusses why relational databases are not suitable for Internet of Things applications and proposes MongoDB as a better alternative. The key points are:
1) Relational databases make assumptions that do not apply to IoT such as expensive storage, centralized architecture, and static schemas, which IoT applications require distributed, flexible schemas to handle massive amounts of real-time sensor data.
2) MongoDB is a more suitable database as it uses a document model with dynamic schemas, auto-sharding for horizontal scalability, text search, aggregation capabilities, and replication for high availability, which are better suited to the demands of storing, filtering, and distributing millions of events per minute from IoT devices.

Trademarks and Your Free and Open Source Software Project
The document discusses how ccTLDs (country code top-level domains) and gTLDs (generic top-level domains) must co-exist and compete in the new environment with hundreds of new gTLDs launched in recent years. It notes that the new gTLDs increase supply and segmentation, threatening ccTLDs and some existing gTLDs like .com and .org by siphoning off users. It recommends that legacy TLD operators anticipate this threat, emphasize or reposition their brands, evolve their offerings by relaxing restrictions and innovating, and stay visible to influence how their brands are perceived among competitors.

new gTLDs
17. CC BY Jordi Iparraguirre
● New gTLD process, GAC trying to gain more
influence
● Is there a real demand for your TLD ?
● .com mindshare and market dominance
– “Big gets bigger” effect
● How to enter & survive in a mature market ?
● How will SW, FW, Apps validate new gTLDs ?
● How will pure generics win world market ?
Issues:
18. CC BY Jordi Iparraguirre
● Internet governance is a key topic (increasingly critical)
– Govt's role, I.Prop law, privacy, access, censorship, ...
● SW, FW, apps, should be ready to accept all these new gTLD
names
– https://www.icann.org/en/resources/tld-acceptance
● DNSSEC & IPv6 aware & ready
Conclusions
19. CC BY Jordi Iparraguirre
● Many gTLDs will be a fiasco in all metrics (volume, visibility,
infodensity, or (niche) market share
● Others will be a “family business” but expendable
● Some may get to a 10e5 zone (overcome shelf-crowding,
win niche or power mktg)
● No one will be threat for .com
