Chapple, R. M. 2013 'Wingnut' the archaeology cat. Blogspot postRobert M Chapple
- Wingnut, the pet cat of an archaeologist, demonstrated an uncanny ability to distinguish ancient artifacts from different time periods and determine whether a piece of flint was a genuine artifact or natural. During experiments, Wingnut would correctly identify the age of artifacts and rub his head against the correct one.
- When challenged by a skeptical visitor, Wingnut was able to identify two pieces of flint provided as genuine artifacts, catching what humans had missed - they both showed signs of being worked by humans.
- Wingnut passed away after many years but proved that cats had archaeological detection abilities long before specially trained dogs. The author argues Wingnut deserves recognition as the first "archaeology cat".

A minimum spanning tree (MST) is a graph that connects all nodes together using the shortest possible total length of edges. There are various algorithms like Kruskal's algorithm, Prim's algorithm, and reverse-delete algorithm to find the MST for a graph. Kruskal's algorithm works by picking the smallest edges without creating cycles, Prim's algorithm starts with one node and adds the shortest connecting edge at each step, and reverse-delete starts with all edges and removes the longest edge at each step as long as it remains connected. MSTs are useful for finding efficient routing in computer networks and other applications.

Review: Of troughs and tuyères: the archaeology of the N5 Charlestown BypassRobert M Chapple
This document provides a review of the book "Of Troughs and Tuyères: The archaeology of the N5 Charlestown Bypass". The reviewer summarizes that the book presents the results of over 40 archaeological excavations along the route, covering 6,000 years of human activity in the region. A notable site discussed is Lowpark, described as unique in the Irish archaeological record, containing evidence of Iron Age and Early Christian ironworking. The reviewer praises the high quality of reporting and illustrations in the book, while noting some preferences on terminology. Overall, the reviewer considers the book a significant contribution to understanding Ireland's archaeological past.

Chapple, R. M. 2013 Psst!?! Fantastic book offers to be had. Blogspot postRobert M Chapple
The author finds several books for sale at very low prices at a second-hand book stall. Originally excited about the great deals, the author later discovers the same books could have been purchased directly from the publisher for similar prices. However, the author is still pleased because more people now have access to these worthwhile books. The document proceeds to recommend over 20 books available from the publisher Wordwell at low prices, particularly on Irish archaeology. It encourages readers to purchase books from Wordwell to expand their collections.
Chapple, R. M. 2013 George and the giant archaeological theory. Blogspot postRobert M Chapple
George was a notorious mature student at University College Galway in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He frequently interrupted class with ill-informed theories and failed to complete his degree in the allotted time. One of George's wild theories, which still brings a smile to the writer's face, was that the round towers built in early Irish monasteries were actually giant slingshots used to fling monks across long distances as a means of rapid travel. While humorous, this theory would completely change perspectives on the Irish Early Christian period if true.
Billy Dunlop, a stalwart of the Northern Irish archaeological scene, recently passed away. After his death, his friend and colleague took it upon himself to disperse Billy's large personal library in a way that would honor his legacy and generosity. He offered the books to archaeologists he knew, asking only for a small donation to Billy's preferred charity. This allowed Billy's books to continue inspiring new generations of archaeologists, as he had inspired many in his lifetime. The effort was a success, raising over £100 for charity and finding good homes for Billy's books among colleagues and friends.
Corrstown: a coastal community. Excavations of a Bronze Age village in Northe...Robert M Chapple
This document provides a summary of the book "Corrstown: A Coastal Community" which presents the results of an excavation of a large Bronze Age village in Northern Ireland. Key findings include differences between the two graveyards in periods of peak gravestone construction and the rise and fall of symbols like the IHS monogram and inverted omega symbol.
PositiveID is developing innovative molecular diagnostic technologies for biological testing and detection, including its Firefly Dx platform for rapid, point-of-need testing. Recent acquisitions of E-N-G, specializing in mobile labs, and Caregiver, an FDA-cleared thermometer, provide synergistic products and revenue. PositiveID reported $2.9 million in revenue for 2015 and $4.6 million for the first nine months of 2016, projecting $5-6 million for full-year 2016. Firefly Dx targets large molecular diagnostics markets and could begin commercial sales in 2017-2018 following field testing.
Irish Copper Age houses in a radiocarbon landscape: a reply to Dr Charles MountRobert M Chapple
This document summarizes and analyzes 61 radiocarbon dates from Ireland that fall within the timeframe of the Irish Copper Age (2600-2400 to 2200/2100 BC). Many of the dates are associated with sites that have produced Beaker pottery or are known Bronze Age settlements, suggesting they could represent additional Copper Age structures. Others come from isolated pits of unknown function. The author argues these dates warrant further research to investigate whether any represent previously unidentified Copper Age houses or settlements.
Chapple, R. M. 2012 St. Patrick’s gravestone: a Bigger fake! Blogspot postRobert M Chapple
This document discusses the discovery that St. Patrick's gravestone in Downpatrick, Northern Ireland is a fake. In 1900, Francis Joseph Bigger erected a granite gravestone meant to mark St. Patrick's burial site. However, Bigger's gravestone does not actually date to St. Patrick's time in the 5th century and does not necessarily mark his exact burial location. While intended to honor St. Patrick, Bigger's gravestone is considered a fake. It has nonetheless become an important memorial site visited by thousands each St. Patrick's Day.

Bubble sort, quicksort, selection sort, and insertion sort are common sorting algorithms. Bubble sort is one of the simplest but least efficient, comparing adjacent elements and swapping them if out of order. Quicksort chooses a pivot element and partitions the list into sublists based on element values relative to the pivot, then recursively sorts the sublists. Selection sort finds the minimum element and swaps it into sorted position, repeating for remaining elements. Insertion sort inserts elements one by one into sorted position in the list. Sorting algorithms are important for organizing data efficiently and are used in applications like search and output formatting.
