This is owing to the poor availability of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the disease. All types of cancers have been reported in Indian population including the cancers of skin, lungs, breast, rectum, stomach, prostate, liver, cervix, esophagus, bladder, blood, mouth etc. The causes of such high incidence rates of these cancers may be both internal (genetic, mutations, hormonal, poor immune conditions) and external or environmental factors (food habits, industrialization, over growth of population, social etc.). In view of these facts, the present article describes the status of various types of cancers in India and its comparison at global level. Besides, attempts have been made to describe the main causes of cancer along with their preventive measures. In addition to this, efforts have also been made to predict the effect of increasing number of cancer patients on the Indian economy.

However, realizing this potential would require $30 billion in tech investments, which is a major challenge given current investment levels and data/infrastructure constraints in India. - Access to safe and affordable surgical care is lacking for 5 billion people globally, especially in low and middle income countries. An estimated 16.9 million deaths in 2010 could have been prevented with access to surgery.
- India performs only 6 million of the required 26 million annual general surgeries. There is a severe shortage of surgical specialists in India, with only 65,000 specialists available compared to a need for over 600,000.
- Increasing postgraduate medical seats and training doctors in district hospitals could help address the shortage of specialists in India and improve access to essential surgeries.
