Proof ~ Surah An-Nisaa 4:86
The Messenger of Allah said: “Allah said „O Adam, go to this
group (of angels) and say to them as-salaamu „alaykum and see how they
respond.‟ So Adam went and greeted them and they responded wa‟alayka as-
salaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh. Allah said „O Adam, this is your
greeting and the greeting of your children.‟
[Sahih Bukhaari, no. 3326]
Which is better: greeting
with as-salaamu alaykum
or greeting with hello / hi /
goodbye?
What does as-salaamu
alaykum wa rahmatullahi

How do we know that
greeting with as-salaamu
alaykum is the best

Proof ~ Surah Al-Kahf 18:50
And surely, We created you (your father Adam) and then gave you shape (the
noble shape of a human being); then We told the angels, "Prostrate yourselves to
Adam", and they prostrated themselves, except Iblis, he refused to be of those who
prostrated themselves. (Allah) said: "What prevented you (O Iblis) that you did not
prostrate yourself, when I commanded you?" Iblis said: "I am better than him
(Adam), You created me from fire, and him You created from mud."
[Surah al-A‟raf 7:11-12]
Why did Allah tell the angels to prostrate to
Adam ?
Why did Iblis refuse to prostrate to Adam ?

In Surah al-A‟raf 7:11-12 we read about the arrogance of Iblis and how he thought
he was better than Adam because he is made from fire while Adam was made
from mud.
Believing that someone is better than someone else because of their origin is a
form of racism. Humans are of all different races: African, Asian, European,
Hispanic, etc, but we all came from one origin: Adam
* No race is superior or inferior to another *
The Messenger of Allah said:
All mankind are from Adam and Hawa; an Arab has no
superiority over a non-Arab and a non-Arab has no
superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over
black and a black has no superiority over white except by
piety and good action.

“Adam was made to live in Paradise alone having no wife to live with him. Then
he slept for a short while and when he awoke he found a woman sitting by his
head. Allah had created her from his rib. He asked her „Who are you?‟ And she
said „I am a woman.‟ He asked her „Why were you created?‟ She said „So that you
can live with me.‟ The angels said to him „What is her name, Adam?‟ He said
„Hawa‟. They said „Why is she called Hawa?‟ He replied „Because she was created
from something (hayy) living.‟

come not near this tree or you both will be of the Dhaalimun (wrong-doers)."
[Surah al-Baqarah 2:35]
Then Shaytan (Iblis) whispered to him, saying: "O Adam! Shall I lead you to the Tree
of Eternity and to a kingdom that will never waste away?" And Adam and his wife
ate from it, and their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to

Then the Shaytaan made them slip there from (the Paradise), and got them out

Then Adam received words from his Lord. And his Lord pardoned him (accepted his

And recite to them (the Jews) the story of the two sons of Adam in
truth; when each offered a sacrifice (to Allah), it was accepted from the
one but not from the other. The latter said to the former: "I will surely
kill you." The former said: "Verily, Allah accepts only from those who are
Al-Muttaqun.”
"If you do stretch your hand against me to kill me, I shall never stretch
my hand against you to kill you; for I fear Allah, the Lord of the 'Alamin.”
"Verily, I intend to let you draw my sin on yourself as well as yours, then
you will be one of the dwellers of the Fire; and that is the recompense of
the Dhaalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers)."
So the Nafs (self) of the other (latter one) encouraged him and made
fair-seeming to him the murder of his brother; he murdered him and
became one of the losers.
Then Allah sent a crow who scratched the ground to show him to hide
the dead body of his brother. He (the murderer) said: "Woe to me! Am I
not even able to be as this crow and to hide the dead body of my
brother?" Then he became one of those who regretted.
[Surah al-Ma‟idah 5:27-31]
www.ImansHomeschool.blogspot.com
It was mentioned that Adam and his wife had children in sets
of twins: one male and one female and that the males would marry the
females who were not their twins.
Habeel and Qabeel were two of Adam‟s sons. Habeel wanted to marry
Qabeel‟s twin. Qabeel‟s twin was more beautiful than Habeel‟s twin so he
wanted to keep her for himself.
Adam ordered Qabeel to marry his sister to Habeel but Qabeel refused.
Adam ordered them both to offer sacrifices to Allah and whichever of
the two sacrifices were accepted would be allowed to marry Qabeel‟s
sister.
Habeel offered a fat lamb in sacrifice while Qabeel offered some of his
crops which were poor quality. A fire came down and consumed Habeel‟s
offering but left the offering of Qabeel.
Qabeel became angry and said to Habeel: “I will kill you so that you
cannot marry my sister.”
Qabeel began to twist his brother‟s head and neck but he did not know
how to kill him.
(Remember that nobody had ever killed anyone before this time).
So the Shaytaan appeared with an animal. He laid the animal‟s head on a
rock and hit it with another rock until it was dead. Qabeel saw this and
did the same to Habeel.
www.ImansHomeschool.blogspot.com
When Qabeel had killed Habeel he did not know what he should do with
his body. Some scholars say he carried his brother‟s body around for a
year, some say for one hundred years – and Allah knows best.
Then Allah sent two crows; they began to fight until one killed the other.
The remaining crow began to dig and scratch the ground to make a hole.
It then rolled the dead body of the other crow into it and buried him.
Qabeel did as the crow did, and buried the body of his brother, Habeel.

“...When death approached Adam, he said to his sons: “O my sons! I long for the
fruits of Paradise.” So they went out to search for something for him. While they
were searching they were met by the angels, who had with them Adam‟s shrouds,
embalming fluid and digging tools from Allah, from Paradise. They said: “O, sons of
Adam! What do you intend and what is it that you seek?” They answered: “Our
father is ill and he longs for the fruits of Paradise.” The angels said: “Return, for the
time has come for your father to die.” So they all came and Eve recognised them.
She clung to Adam and he said: “Leave me! For I surely came before you. Let me be
alone with the angels of my Lord, the Most Glorified, the Most High.” Then they
took out his soul, gave his body a bath, shrouded the body, embalmed it and dug a
grave for him and offered the funeral prayer and lowered him in the grave and
closed the grave over him with earth. Then they said: “O, sons of Adam! This is to be
your tradition.”

[Sahih Muslim, 39, 6707 and Tabarani, vol 1, pg 187-188 and vol 1, pg 192-193] SATURDAY SUNDAY MONDAY TUESDAY WEDNESDAY THURSDAY FRIDAY
  • 4. www.ImansHomeschool.blogspot.com Allah spoke to the Angels and told them that He was going to create a human being ~ Adam Can you fill in the gaps to show who said what during the following conversation? Refer to Surah al-Baqarah 2:30-35 _____________ said to _____________ _____________ said to _____________ _____________ said to _____________ “Verily, I am going to create a Khaleefah on the earth.” “Will You place upon it one who will cause corruption and shed blood while we declare Your praise and glorify You?” “Indeed, I know that which you do not know.”
  • 5. www.ImansHomeschool.blogspot.com _____________ said to _____________ _____________ said to _____________ _____________ said to _____________ “Tell Me the names of these things if you are truthful.” “Glory be to You! We have no knowledge except that which You have taught us.” “O Adam, inform them of their names.”
  • 6. www.ImansHomeschool.blogspot.com _____________ said to _____________ _____________ said to _____________ _____________ said to _____________ “Did I not tell you that I know the unseen of the heavens and the earth? And I know what you reveal and conceal.” “O Adam! Live with your wife in Jannah and eat as much as you wish from wherever you like but do not approach this tree.” “Prostrate to Adam.”
  • 10. www.ImansHomeschool.blogspot.com And (remember) when Your Lord said to the Angels: “I am going to create a man (Adam) from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud. So when I have shaped him and breathed into him the soul which I have created for him then prostrate yourselves to him” [Surah al-Hijr 15:28-29] What is meant by „sounding clay‟? [Tafsir] From what material did Allah create Adam ? How did Allah honour Adam ?
  • 14. www.ImansHomeschool.blogspot.com The Messenger of Allah said: “Allah created Adam from a handful (of soil) taken from all parts of the earth; and so the Children of Adam come out according to the colours of the earth. Some are white, some red, some black and what is between. And there are some filthy and some pure; and some soft and some hard and what is in between”. [Imam Ahmad, recorded as sahih, no. 19085] How did Allah create Adam ? Why are people different colours? Why do people have different characters?

  • 25. www.ImansHomeschool.blogspot.com The Messenger of Allah said: “When He (Allah) breathed into Adam and the soul reached his head, he sneezed and said: “Alhamdulillahi Rabbil-„Alamin (Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds).” Allah answered him by saying: “Yarhamuk-Allah (Allah bestows His mercy upon you).” [Sahih of Ibn Hibbaan 6165] What was the first thing that Adam did when Allah blew his soul into him? What was the first thing that Adam said after he sneezed? What was the first thing that Allah bestowed upon Adam ? What are the benefits that we can learn from this story?
  • 28. www.ImansHomeschool.blogspot.com Proof ~ Surah An-Nisaa 4:86 The Messenger of Allah said: “Allah said „O Adam, go to this group (of angels) and say to them as-salaamu „alaykum and see how they respond.‟ So Adam went and greeted them and they responded wa‟alayka as- salaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh. Allah said „O Adam, this is your greeting and the greeting of your children.‟ [Sahih Bukhaari, no. 3326] Which is better: greeting with as-salaamu alaykum or greeting with hello / hi / goodbye? What does as-salaamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh mean? How do we know that greeting with as-salaamu alaykum is the best greeting? What is the proof that a Muslim must respond to the greeting of salaam?
  • 32. www.ImansHomeschool.blogspot.com Fill in the correct Islamic greeting and its response
  • 34. www.ImansHomeschool.blogspot.com Proof ~ Surah Al-Kahf 18:50 And surely, We created you (your father Adam) and then gave you shape (the noble shape of a human being); then We told the angels, "Prostrate yourselves to Adam", and they prostrated themselves, except Iblis, he refused to be of those who prostrated themselves. (Allah) said: "What prevented you (O Iblis) that you did not prostrate yourself, when I commanded you?" Iblis said: "I am better than him (Adam), You created me from fire, and him You created from mud." [Surah al-A‟raf 7:11-12] Why did Allah tell the angels to prostrate to Adam ? Why did Iblis refuse to prostrate to Adam ? Was Iblis an angel? Yes? No? Give proof for your answer. Which is superior: mud or fire? Give reasons for your answer.
  • 37. www.ImansHomeschool.blogspot.com In Surah al-A‟raf 7:11-12 we read about the arrogance of Iblis and how he thought he was better than Adam because he is made from fire while Adam was made from mud. Believing that someone is better than someone else because of their origin is a form of racism. Humans are of all different races: African, Asian, European, Hispanic, etc, but we all came from one origin: Adam * No race is superior or inferior to another * The Messenger of Allah said: All mankind are from Adam and Hawa; an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab and a non-Arab has no superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over black and a black has no superiority over white except by piety and good action. [The Last Sermon, 9 Dhul-Hijjah, 10AH] What is racism? What is a racist? Why is racism wrong?
  • 40. www.ImansHomeschool.blogspot.com “Adam was made to live in Paradise alone having no wife to live with him. Then he slept for a short while and when he awoke he found a woman sitting by his head. Allah had created her from his rib. He asked her „Who are you?‟ And she said „I am a woman.‟ He asked her „Why were you created?‟ She said „So that you can live with me.‟ The angels said to him „What is her name, Adam?‟ He said „Hawa‟. They said „Why is she called Hawa?‟ He replied „Because she was created from something (hayy) living.‟ [As-Suddi related from Abu Saleh and Abu Malik from Ibn „Abbass and „Abdullah Ibn Mas‟ud (and others)] From what material did Allah create Hawa? Why did Allah create Hawa? Who did Allah create first: Adam or Hawa? What is the meaning of the name: Hawa?
  • 43. www.ImansHomeschool.blogspot.com And We said: "O Adam! Dwell you and your wife in the Paradise and eat both of you freely with pleasure and delight, of things therein as wherever you will, but come not near this tree or you both will be of the Dhaalimun (wrong-doers)." [Surah al-Baqarah 2:35] Then Shaytan (Iblis) whispered to him, saying: "O Adam! Shall I lead you to the Tree of Eternity and to a kingdom that will never waste away?" And Adam and his wife ate from it, and their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to cover themselves with the leaves of Paradise. [Surah Taha 20:120-121] Where did Allah tell Adam and Hawa to live? What did Allah tell them not to do? What did Iblis say would happen if they ate from the Tree? What happened when they ate from the Tree?
  • 46. www.ImansHomeschool.blogspot.com Grape Vine Fig Tree Date Palm Tree Why didn‟t Allah reveal to us the type of Tree? Do we know what type of Tree Adam and Hawa ate from? How do the People of the Book depict the Forbidden Tree?
  • 49. www.ImansHomeschool.blogspot.com Then the Shaytaan made them slip there from (the Paradise), and got them out from that in which they were. We said: "Get you down, all, with enmity between yourselves. On earth will be a dwelling place for you and an enjoyment for a time” Then Adam received words from his Lord. And his Lord pardoned him (accepted his repentance). Verily, He is the One Who forgives, the Most Merciful. [Surah al-Baqarah 2:36-37] The Messenger of Allah said: “The best day on which the sun rises is Friday; on that day Adam was created, on it he entered Paradise and on it he was sent out of it.” [Sahih Muslim (854)] What did Allah do to Adam and Hawa when they disobeyed Him? Whom did Allah send down to earth with Adam and Hawa? On which day did Adam and Hawa leave Jannah? What does “with enmity between yourselves” mean? What were the words that Adam received from his Lord? (Qur‟aan 7:23) Did Allah forgive Adam? Give proof for your answer.
  • 53. www.ImansHomeschool.blogspot.com Where did Adam and Hawa land when they descended to earth? Reference: „Atlas of the Qur‟an‟ by Dr. Shawqi Abu Khalil, published by Darussalam The First Narration The Second Narration The Third Narration
  • 56. www.ImansHomeschool.blogspot.com And recite to them (the Jews) the story of the two sons of Adam in truth; when each offered a sacrifice (to Allah), it was accepted from the one but not from the other. The latter said to the former: "I will surely kill you." The former said: "Verily, Allah accepts only from those who are Al-Muttaqun.” "If you do stretch your hand against me to kill me, I shall never stretch my hand against you to kill you; for I fear Allah, the Lord of the 'Alamin.” "Verily, I intend to let you draw my sin on yourself as well as yours, then you will be one of the dwellers of the Fire; and that is the recompense of the Dhaalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers)." So the Nafs (self) of the other (latter one) encouraged him and made fair-seeming to him the murder of his brother; he murdered him and became one of the losers. Then Allah sent a crow who scratched the ground to show him to hide the dead body of his brother. He (the murderer) said: "Woe to me! Am I not even able to be as this crow and to hide the dead body of my brother?" Then he became one of those who regretted. [Surah al-Ma‟idah 5:27-31]
  • 57. www.ImansHomeschool.blogspot.com It was mentioned that Adam and his wife had children in sets of twins: one male and one female and that the males would marry the females who were not their twins. Habeel and Qabeel were two of Adam‟s sons. Habeel wanted to marry Qabeel‟s twin. Qabeel‟s twin was more beautiful than Habeel‟s twin so he wanted to keep her for himself. Adam ordered Qabeel to marry his sister to Habeel but Qabeel refused. Adam ordered them both to offer sacrifices to Allah and whichever of the two sacrifices were accepted would be allowed to marry Qabeel‟s sister. Habeel offered a fat lamb in sacrifice while Qabeel offered some of his crops which were poor quality. A fire came down and consumed Habeel‟s offering but left the offering of Qabeel. Qabeel became angry and said to Habeel: “I will kill you so that you cannot marry my sister.” Qabeel began to twist his brother‟s head and neck but he did not know how to kill him. (Remember that nobody had ever killed anyone before this time). So the Shaytaan appeared with an animal. He laid the animal‟s head on a rock and hit it with another rock until it was dead. Qabeel saw this and did the same to Habeel.
  • 58. www.ImansHomeschool.blogspot.com When Qabeel had killed Habeel he did not know what he should do with his body. Some scholars say he carried his brother‟s body around for a year, some say for one hundred years – and Allah knows best. Then Allah sent two crows; they began to fight until one killed the other. The remaining crow began to dig and scratch the ground to make a hole. It then rolled the dead body of the other crow into it and buried him. Qabeel did as the crow did, and buried the body of his brother, Habeel. [Tafsir Ibn Kathir (not verbatim)]
  • 62. www.ImansHomeschool.blogspot.com What were the names of the two sons of Adam? Who killed who? Why did Qabeel want to kill Habeel? Who showed Qabeel how to kill Habeel? How did Qabeel kill Habeel? Why did Allah send the crow? What did the crow do? What did Qabeel do with Habeel‟s body?
  • 65. www.ImansHomeschool.blogspot.com Reference: „Atlas of the Qur‟an‟ by Dr. Shawqi Abu Khalil, published by Darussalam Where did the story of Habeel and Qabeel take place? Where did Qabeel go after he killed Habeel? Where is Mount Qasyun? Why is the entrance to Mount Qasyun called „The Cave of Blood‟?
  • 68. www.ImansHomeschool.blogspot.com “...When death approached Adam, he said to his sons: “O my sons! I long for the fruits of Paradise.” So they went out to search for something for him. While they were searching they were met by the angels, who had with them Adam‟s shrouds, embalming fluid and digging tools from Allah, from Paradise. They said: “O, sons of Adam! What do you intend and what is it that you seek?” They answered: “Our father is ill and he longs for the fruits of Paradise.” The angels said: “Return, for the time has come for your father to die.” So they all came and Eve recognised them. She clung to Adam and he said: “Leave me! For I surely came before you. Let me be alone with the angels of my Lord, the Most Glorified, the Most High.” Then they took out his soul, gave his body a bath, shrouded the body, embalmed it and dug a grave for him and offered the funeral prayer and lowered him in the grave and closed the grave over him with earth. Then they said: “O, sons of Adam! This is to be your tradition.” [Musnad of Imam Ahmad 20734] What did Adam say when he was near death? Who did the sons of Adam meet when they went out searching? What did the angels say when they met the sons of Adam? What did the angels have with them? Who performed the burial and Janazah prayer for Adam? What lessons did the angels teach the sons of Adam?
  • 71. www.ImansHomeschool.blogspot.com On the authority of „Abdullah ibn „Abbas and Abu Hurayrah: “His (Adam‟s) lifespan was ordained in Al-Lawh Al-Mahfooz (the Preserved Tablet) to be a thousand years.” [Graded Hasan, narrated by Ahmad, 2270] Ata Al-Khurasani said, as narrated by Ibn „Asakir: “When Adam died, all of creation cried for him for seven days.” [Stories of the Prophets, Ibn Kathir, pg 55] How old was Adam when he died? The Jews claim Adam lived for 930 years. How do we reconcile this? Who cried for Adam and for how long? Where was Adam buried? Narration 1 Narration 2 Narration 3
