1. Possible sources of error
a) Incorrect labelling - If the tubes containing the DNA are mixed up or incorrectly labelled, then
identification of the culprit will be difficult and one may end up prosecuting an innocent person
for a crime.
b) While transferring of DNA samples in the lab, if fresh tip is not used each time, the results can
be confusing.
c) Contamination of DNA sample - If proper care is not taken during the collection of samples
from the crime scene or suspects, there is a possibility that the DNA of the handler (person who
collected or processed the sample) may get mixed, resulting into erroneus results.
d) Improper transportation or storage- If proper care is not taken while transporting or storing the
samples before being processed in lab, the DNA may get damaged or it's quality may
deteriorate. In such a situation, the whole experiment/ assessment will be of no use.
