ZIRCONIUM BASED BULK METALLIC
GLASS-TUNGSTEN FIBRE COMPOSITE

Stress-Strain Curve
 Tungsten fiber volume fraction:31 % (1.38 diameter)
    Sample length: 30 mm
    Mold cavity ( 6mm diameter, 55 mm length ).
   Glass-Alloy:
   Why Tungsten? : It increases Toughness (Tungsten has highest Tensile
    strength among pure metal)
   Compressive Fracture stress of BMG Composite (1783 Mpa) found to
    be slightly lesser than the Fracture stress of BMG (1904 Mpa).
   Fracture Strain of BMG Composite (0.06) is 10 times of BMG (0.558).
   Deformation occurs, as in glass by the propagation of localized shear
    bands (at an angle of 45 to the compressive axis). But the interaction of
    shear bands with the W wires results in the generation of multiple shear
    bands in the Tungsten and substantial plastic deformation.
   Greatly desired in the design of W- based armor piercing kinetic energy
    penetrators
